There is a Birthday Celebration- all Day function here in the area I live in. We were speaking of this subject in a Friday meeting.
Truly amazing when you think of how relatively Young this Life Saving organization really is.
So much deep humbling Gratitude, almost hard to describe, but I cannot reflect on this Gratitude without a deep sense of sadness for those that went before us, where there was no help available to any alcoholic, not really that long ago, in the bigger picture.
Here's to Dr. Bob and Bill W. and their meeting in 1935, and in 4 years AA had grown to 100 members. And today we now celebrate this 71st Birthday, and the over 2,000,000 members. (That sure is a lot people to fit into this little boat!, but we are still on top of the water.)
Toni, A Greatful and Humble Recovering Alcoholic
Happy Birthday! Thank you to God, Dr. Bob, Bill W. and also Dr. C. Jung.
“'I have placed both the operation and myself in God's hands,' Dr. Bob replied [to Bill W]. 'I'm going to do what it takes to get sober and stay that way.'"After leaving the hospital, Dr. Bob had set out to make the rounds of creditors and others he had previously avoided. He told them what had been going on, and expressed his desire to make amends. When he came home that night, his entire outlook had changed. He was happy, and, like Bill, he was finally a free man. It was June 10, 1935 -- now honored as the date when A.A. really began. After months of pursuing drunks, Bill had finally helped one recover."
