I was just thinking how easy it would be to fix my brain if it was like a computer. Just a few simple steps and I would have a fully functioning brain!

Back to reality.....

I have done a whole lot of damage to my thinker. I remember in rehab they taught us about how the brain works when it comes to pleasure and pain and all that good stuff. I've got a bunch of stuff up there malfunctioning. Short term memory loss, racing thoughts, etc. Problems....

Hope.....

I have talked to fellow AA's about this and the majority of them have told me that over time the brain actually regenerates itself and becomes more useful. So right now it may seem like my mind is a puzzle with several missing pieces but eventually things are going to get better.

Most of my problems that I experience in life now are managable. I talk to friends in the program and I find solutions!! Usually people just tell me to live in today because I'm focused on something I have no control over in the here and now. That's the hardest thing to do. Live for today. I know how beneficial it is but that still doesn't change the fact that I struggle with this program because it's all about change and change is scary. Damn fear....

Oh well, I hope everyone is having as good a day as possible.

Peace......

Hi Justin, yeah, computer problems, know it well. If it was as easy to fix as buying a new hard drive life would be easy!

I think and I may well be wrong, the brain will not recover from alcohol damage physically. The good news is that the brain has such a huge Mb capacity that it can learn to do the same things in different ways. Takes time and we don't have a reboot disc.

Hope you have a good day and a sober day.

Best wishes

Chris.

(Any computer terms in this message may will be wrong, Chris accepts no responsibility for anyone who tries to buy a new brain)

Hi There Justin,

Well we are finally up and running, eh?

When I had finally admitted defeat, that I was an Alcoholic,  the very next thing in line, was that I also had a Thinking disorder.

have learned over the years, that I can only trust my thinking, when it is alligned with God first in everything.  God first, Program next, then when I feel safe in those two area, I can trust my thinking.

And when you talked about the Fear,  well that just might be the answer, I remember in my first year, the Fear was so overwhelming,  but now when I look back at it,  it was a Good Fear, that drove me back to a meeting everyday, 24 hour book every morning, open ears, wanted to know how to keep what I had in becoming Sober.

Hugs, Toni

I think that, to the extent that the brain is affected by alcohol but not actually damaged, that part can improve,,,  but the part of the brain that gets actually damaged is permanent damage. I have also heard that the brain can establish new synapses, or pathways, to learn new ways of doing some things. Our bodies are such great miracles..  life is an amazing miracle.  And we value it so lightly at times,,  or even not value it at all,,,  and abuse it and misuse it until it is too late.

Hey 'Sober''...I saw a program awhile back on PBS. It was on nutrition by Nicholas Perricone. He asserts that by re-balancing hormone production with nutritional supplements, we can think more clearly in a relatively short amount of time. I have been following his advise and feel better mood and able to think more clearly. Not an advise, but check out his books on line, etc. He explains how this brain utilizes supplements. Peace   -Paul
