Anyone seen this?  I think I saw a thread about this a while back and I decided to rent it and watched it today after my employer sent me home from work because I am still sick.

I thought it was pretty true to life of AA....

It made me think about the dangers and consequences of relapse for sure...but also that AA is always there for us no matter what....

Anyone have an opinion on this movie?

Jen

Hi Jen. Nope, I havent seen that movie. But every single Saturday, when I worked in a rehab. facility, we would show the residents movies along that line, like When a Man loves a Woman, oh, that Michael Keaton one (sheesh, I must have watched those things dozens of times), the Bill W. movie..but one we weren't allowed to show unless their were counselors available was called "Requiem for a Dream". Holy Cow. Very graphic, but it impacted me so heavily that I had bad dreams for nights after seeing it. It's one of those movies that if I could edit out a few of the rawer scenes, I'd want youth at risk to see. Heavy movie. I'll look for Drunks next time I'm at a video store, thanks. Wren

Hi jennifer,

Saw the movie, on television, many years ago, and when i say it on again, I watched.  I felt it would have been more true to live, is there had not been so many famous people in it.

and yes Wren, Requiem for a Dream, gave me nightmares too.  But i agree, should be seen by every stubborn drunk and drug user in the world.  Freaked me out, so graphic.  And that poor mother, she took the Prize really, eh.  So sad, and the hard part is that is was so Friggen TRUE to life. The end scene was the nightmare part, but I guess that is also a very real end of the line for so many.

Makes me feel depressed and so sad for our brothers and sisters that never get the opportunity that we share, we are here, alive, one day at a time.  Thank you GOD.

Toni

Hi Jennifer,

Just be aware that this is a very Heavy Film,  No Happy endings in this,  can be quite a downer, even sober.

So be Prepared, o.k.

Hugs, Toni

Like the movie "Deliverance"  Same heaviness to it, only about Junkies.

Hey iffer, yeah it was me who posted about this film before..  Iv watched it a few times now.  It was made 11 years ago, so i gues not all the stars where quite so famous at that point..  Ive just checkd and Ally Mcbeal didnt start screening till 1997, and like i say Drunks was released in 1995.  Ironic though that the main character, Jim, was not so famous iv never seen him before and looking at his philmography i didnt recognise any of the other films he's been in either..

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112907/ (drunks)

Ill have to watch our for the Requiem For A Dream too:

How about leaving 'Las Vegas?' - Nicholas Cage; Elizabeth Shue...I shudder every time I remember it! Heavy Duty reality. Fully reminds me of my own 'incomprehensible demoralization' at the last days of my insane drinking...paul

I just ordered a used DVD of "Clean and Sober" starring Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman from "Amazon.com" for US$ 4.75.

They also have the movie "Drunks" but it's quite a bit more expensive, so I'll wait until I've watched this one.

Hi,

I had forgotten, Leaving Las Vegas,  this is really a very Powerful film, recommend it highly, could ralate to so much of the insane thinking when in the Grip on the Disease. An excellent EXAMPLE of the people who NEVER, EVER get the opportunity that we are all SO BLESSED with, one of those Reality films, to me,  that can make me so so grateful.  Shows the 3rd and Final End Stage to this Disease in an  extemely real way.

Also an inspirational film to do as much 12th step work, that we can fit into one day, everyday, all the time.

Ya, Leaving Las Vegas was a good movie too.

I was really surprised to see all of the famous people in drunks myself but Rob is right that some of them weren't so famous at the time.

The main character Jim is a stand up comedian so I was really surprised to see him in it!

I also enjoyed Clean and Sober, I saw that one before I got sober and it made me very uncomfortable.  Same with When a Man loves a Woman....

I'll have to see them again now that I'm sober and see how they make me feel.

Lots of good movies out there to remind me where I was.....
