1st Day...Difficult Position

Hey everyone...I'm starting my road to recovery, have tried multiple times, but hope to use this as a means of communication with others going through the same thing.

Going to AA or rehab is unfortunately not an option for me as the small community I'm in could destroy my work. I could go into detail further, but it's just not possible with my situation and position of work as a pastor. I understand the church should not be judgmental and all of that, but perception is everything, and with a wife and 2 small children I can't risk my position on someone else's perception.

Just wanted to say hey to everyone, and declare my road to recovery today. Looking forward to getting to know you all and updating my daily struggle. Thanks for all you do,

- W

Welcome to MIP d.d., glad you found us ...

If you can't go to meet'ns then get you a copy of the Big Book (Alcoholics Anonymous) and be sure to read it ... We'll be here to support you in any way we can ... we won't hold you be'n a pastor against you, LOL ...

When you read the BB, you may have some questions ... feel free to come here and ask ... we have lots of sobriety here ... we're here for you ...

Welcome D.D. I was just thinking how great it would be to have you here. Your knowledge in spiritual matters could be a great benefit to those of us trying to follow a spiritual way of living.

I am not sure why AA would be a problem. On the one hand it was founded with the help of people like the Reverend Samuel Schumaker, and we have many men and women "of the cloth" in the fellowship. My home group here has a pastor among its membership, and my home group back in NZ has a vicar.

I am looking forward to hearing more from you.

Lol thanks for not holding me being a pastor against me. Most of us get a pretty (well-deservedly so) bad rap. Basically due to my position and the size of where I live, and my public image, I would be in jeopardy of my position if the wrong person saw me there. Itās a very unfortunate tricky situation. But I appreciate the encouragement and advice on the big book, Iāll order that today. If anyone ever needs any spiritual guidance, help or questions please donāt hesitate to ask. Longest Iāve gone sans alcohol is a week and a half, 3 months ago. Iām now on day 2 and more focused than ever to kick it for good.

Welcome to the forum, dd.

We are rooting for you on your new start. Reading the Big Book will help. Feel free to ask questions about it.

You might consider anonymous online AA meetings:

www.aaonline.net

Four meetings a day there....
