As a die hard atheist...

I can never believe in god or a higher power.

Am I doomed?

There are forces out there that give us beautiful sunrises and sunsets ... it puts me in awe of the power in play to create these stunning scenes ... it shows me I am not in control, but something much more powerful than I can even dream of ... a belief and faith in a Power Greater than me ...

I've seen too many miracles in my life to believe otherwise ... and I am one of those miracles ...

No, you're not doomed, TM. Maybe you can consider one of the secular recovery programs, like SMART Recovery.

Or one of the AA offshoots which have an emphasis on atheism.

You cannot get sober without help. Without help you'll just keep drinking lots of vodka...

You're not doomed. Just sick. With a very low probability of getting out alive.

I have felt that way   "DOOMED"

Until i started to follow the suggestions , The Bigbook of AA tells me i have a lack of power"and the purpose of the book is to help you find that power "

For me it was a God of my understanding,,

I dont have the power to keep me Sober, for me i had to find out the what the  problem was first & it wasnt the Drinking,

And i have had Suicidal thoughts wen i was getting sober.

Good luck to you

I got over the fear of it and in support of sobriety learned to "act as if" there might be a god,,,good orderly direction...Higher Power...Akua God of all Gods from my native culture and that is who I am with right now.  Get rid of the fear...act as if there is or might be one and follow the 3rd step directions.  Keep searching Tipsy from my experiences...you will find the HP of TM's understanding.   smile

will also add i think too i was never an athiest but agnostic ? yah .. the one thing i will say is i agree with the miracles in the program, they eventually make it harder (impossible really) not to come to believe in something more.. with the perception in recovery changing all the time the only thing i really do know is coming to meetings, fellowship, etc .. our thinking won't stay the 'same ..
