Do you have a particular moment when you decided that you have to quit alcohol? Or an incident that prompted you to quit? I am sure almost everyone will have something. No one decided to quit alcohol just like that.
For me it was an incident. I had a habit of getting drunk and reaching home (somehow) completely out of my senses. My family was slowly breaking and had no control over anything. My kids were terrified of my, my wife felt helpless and my parents had disowned me. So one night I reached my home drunk and passed out in the living room. That night we had a break-in attempt. Two intruders broke through the front door. We had a a motion sensor in the living room. The motion sensor raised an alarm that alerted my family. And an emergency call was made to the cops by ....[--Spam link removed--]urity alarm monitoring service. The intruders had started to break-in to the bedroom when the cops came and they made a run for their lives. And the saddest part is that I slept through all those or rather I was out of my consciousness all these while.
I came to know all of this when my wife woke me up, the cops gave me an earful and took me to a therapist. The therapy session was what made me decide to quit. Also the realization that if there wasn't an alarm at my home my entire family would have been attacked by the intruders and I wouldn't have even known.
So this was my story, can you share yours?

Frankly, your "story" is suspect. Your "intruders" ignored a not so silent alarm, attempted to "break" into the bedrooms as if the bedrooms were locked, you slept through all of this only to be woken by your wife while the cops were there, the cops took you to a therapist without an appointment in the middle of the night, you boldly included a link to your security company, not just a name, and instead of feedback, you are voyeuristically soliciting another's story about getting sober without even admitting you are one yourself; one starts crossing over from the social/"normal" drinker side to the abnormal/antisocial/alcoholic drinker side when alcohol starts becoming a problem in their life. Apparently you didn't impress Tanin either. In Tanin's shoes I would delete the thread, apparently you were plugging the security company and otherwise we don't need someone mocking alcoholics here, achieving sobriety without it is tough enough there is already enough stigma to the disease and nobody is harder on us than ourselves!
BUSTED!
