Good evening Folks, I have a few questions for all that are in the process of Recovery. They may seem foolish but the really mean something to me. 1) What is Recovery? Please list some of the promises of "AA" 2) Why do people say AA is a Religion? What is the spiritual component about? 3) How does gratefulness play into Recovery? 4) How do anger and resentment play a role in drinking and drugging? 5) How do I know I have crossed the line with an Alcohol or Addict? 6) If I wanted to, what are the suggestions about staying away from a Drink or maybe even a Drug? 7) Why do some people say its necessary to give up old friends, hang out places and things to stay sober? Like I had said, these may sound crazy to some, but means a lot to me. It will help me learn through this process. Thank you for your time. Kind regards, Wayne
G'day Wayne & Welcome to MiP.
Don't look like silly questions to me.
1- Recovery to me is recovering from the effects that alcohol had on me . I could see things in others , but not myself.
Until I hit my rockbottom I coul not recover. I Have Not regretted my past , so I don't have to walk away from my past.
I intuitively see/know things that used to baffle me .I AM Honest with myself.
2 - Yes I have seen a bit of a"God squad" here & there , but I like to think d & a councillor told me when I first got here.
Yes John there is a God & you're not it. To me THE Whole aspect IS spiritual.
3 - I Have to Show my Gratitude , not talk about it . From my Meagre existence . Yes it Was Pitiful.
To this brand New life have today . Why would I not be grateful.
4 - To me , I suppose I could see how everyone was getting on with life & I was being left behind . Why wouldn't I be angry,
then I start to re-feel all that & grind it over & over & make myself angrier.
5 - I don't think we know we have crossed the line into alcoholism or addiction , we have our rose coloured glasses on & we are
in denial (Don't ever notice I am lieing) & we try to convince ourSelf we are ok AND everybody is picking on us.
6 - WE Don't pick up the first drink , then we can't get drunk . To us having a drink , does not stop after one.
Once we take that first drink we are compelled to drink until we are finished . Normal people have their couple of drinks,
then go home . If alcohol was the problem . Everybody would be an alcoholic . That's why we say "ISM" In Side Me.
Not everybody has "the ism's".
7 - I had an accident just before I got to AA . NONE of my so called friends , came to see me when I was close to death in hospital,
in fact . Nobody came to see me . Did Daniel go back to the lions cage to get his cap . If you sleep with dogs , you're likely to get fleas,
sit in a barbers chair & you may get a hair cut . Old cliché's yes But True for us .Our friends , if we have any left . Will tell us , we are ok.
Just drink too much , they think it is the amount we drink , but they see us change , once we have a drink.
Yes Wayne for us . It is Not where we drink , what we drink Or how much we drink.
IT IS the effect on Us once we take that 1st Fatal drink.
I Hope this Is of help to you Wayne. Go Well.
