Alcohol in restaurant meals

Hi

Last night we were out for dinner, it was a set meal with no choices. At the end of the meal there was some home made chocolate ice-cream and chocolate cake.

Half way through eating this I got to thinking what's this made of? Is there alcohol in it? This time I don't think there was, but do you ask in restaurants if there is alcohol in any of the dishes your are ordering?

Hi Chatillon,

Sure. If the waitperson does not know, they can find out. I had always heard that alcohol cooks out of food. A while back I read something which contradicts that. I use alcohol free flavorings, like vanilla. The others are loaded with alcohol.

If you were allergic to 'nuts', would you ask if a particular dish had nuts in it???, or was prepared on the same cook surface that had had nuts earlier???

Sure, it's always better to err on the side of caution, ask if in doubt ... no harm done, unless you just go ahead and eat the stuff only to find out later that it's laced with the stuff ...

Good question Alex . Both previous , to me are spot on . To me , I ASK . I say it don't go well with my meds.

I also got told , alcohol gets cooked out of "most things" , but not allways the taste . The taste could be a trigger.

I am NOT prepared to take that risk , as I did Not at 9 days sober . When I asked , in front of a hospital cafeteria.

When half the staff were having dinner . My server Yelled through to the kitchen , and the Whole cafeteria heard.

Yep about 200 people , the wife was not that impressed . BUT That was the Lengths I Had to go to . I Still do the

same today , nearly 30yrs later . Near where I live is a Yacht club , with "to die for" fish meals , you get the whole

fish , the Flathead is awesome , but when they have it "beer battered" I have to leave it , I am not that sort of

'risk taker' today . I am Still an adventurer in other areas . I Still have a Good "Dare factor" and a healthy

"Fear factor" . I am going Stateside next week , hiring a car & doing about 1800 miles in two weeks , staying in

4 motels & going to a wedding . I don't have to worry at the wedding , as there are 3 other AA's , I know of.

I already Have my meetings lists & did "mud maps" off the interstate for not only the motels , but ALL the

Addresses of the meetings in each town/city.

I'd also like to tell you about the Authentic Italian Restaurant St Louis, which I visited on Sunday. There were delicious pasta, steaks, and pizzas made in-house! The staff was courteous and provided excellent advice. The bartender is adept at creating the cocktail you require.
