Last night we were out for dinner, it was a set meal with no choices. At the end of the meal there was some home made chocolate ice-cream and chocolate cake.
Half way through eating this I got to thinking what's this made of? Is there alcohol in it? This time I don't think there was, but do you ask in restaurants if there is alcohol in any of the dishes your are ordering?
Sure. If the waitperson does not know, they can find out. I had always heard that alcohol cooks out of food. A while back I read something which contradicts that. I use alcohol free flavorings, like vanilla. The others are loaded with alcohol.
If you were allergic to 'nuts', would you ask if a particular dish had nuts in it???, or was prepared on the same cook surface that had had nuts earlier???
Sure, it's always better to err on the side of caution, ask if in doubt ... no harm done, unless you just go ahead and eat the stuff only to find out later that it's laced with the stuff ...

I'd also like to tell you about the Authentic Italian Restaurant St Louis, which I visited on Sunday. There were delicious pasta, steaks, and pizzas made in-house! The staff was courteous and provided excellent advice. The bartender is adept at creating the cocktail you require.
