Well, I woke up this morning with a clear head and feeling great. Today actually marks 91 days since my last drink. I'm feeling beyond blessed. Snow and slick roads may keep me from a morning meeting, but I still feel great. My work week also seems to keep me from many week day/night meetings, but I'm maintaining discussions with my sponsor and keeping connected with God through prayer. Thank you all for your uplifting support!
And don't be overly worried about meeting attendance. You don't really have to do 90 meetings in 90 days. Most people do not, because of family, work and other obligations.
The main thing is, as you are aware, to stay connected to sponsor, literature, God, program, other AAs, meetings, etc. The first ninety days is critical as that is when most newcomers drop out. You made it. Now keep up the good work.
Thanks folks! Tanin - I, in no way, made 90 meetings in 90 days. I probably made around 30. I've met with my sponsor about 5 or 6 times and keep studying and praying.
Sounds like you had enough meetings to get the job done. That's what counts. Some people in AA think of it as a contest. But it's not. (The record on this forum is 387 meetings in the first ninety days, by the way.)
I didn't make 90, either, Troy. It was OK-- I made a solid connection to AA in the first 3 months. Thank God. Probably saved my life.
You are ahead of me on sponsor meetings--I didn't get a sponsor until about 9 to 12 months in.
Keep us updated on how you're doing. When you share important information like you did today, it cheers us up. Lets us know the program is working.
I ended up making it to a meeting yesterday morning. As I mentioned, it was cold, snowy and the roads were slick. I have a little 2 wheel drive pickup so it was an adventure slipping and spinning around some hills to make it to one of the early morning meetings in our city. I got there about 7:15 (meeting starts at 7) and there were 4 other hardy souls there and since they had a small crew of old timers, the chair just sort of skipped through stuff (he said) and they got into the discussion. I know all of the gentlemen there, with a collective near 75 years of sobriety, and so didn't rush up to start sharing. The personality of this group really is old school - what is was like, what happened and what it is like now - and I enjoy hearing from them. I listened to a couple of shares and then told them that yesterday was 91 days and that I was there for a chip. Their excitement and enthusiasm was genuine and their prayers over the chip were awesome. I felt more like a member of AA yesterday than I ever have. I'm getting a better understanding of how sharing my little bit of a story with others can help them in their journey. So Pickle, I get it!
Thank you!!
I shared that earlier in the week I had a moment of wondering if I was in mourning for never drinking beer again. I love beer. I love the taste, the variety and what not. But I also shared how, while visiting our son in San Francisco over Christmas, how I realized just how bad beer smells on the breath of another person and how bad wine smells on the breath of another person and just how silly several 20 somethings act as they are getting drunk. I understood that I'm really happy that I didn't have to do that anymore. I also understood that the wonderful trip and visit with our son and his girl was so much better because I wasn't drinking. All of the memories of the trip are clear and I didn't do anything stupid.
This morning I am enjoying a cup of tea (the tea was a gift from my son and his girl - defacto daughter-in-law) bought and delivered from China on their trip there earlier in the month. Drinking a nice cup of hot black tea is so much more enjoyable than coming to in the morning and wondering where I left my keys, again.
Wow Troy! Yours is an awesome post indeed! I am sure it will help others who discover this board and are in search of reading how AA and staying sober are helping them change their lives for the better. It helped me too!
Thanks for posting!
Yeah, it felt good to pick up that chip, didn't it Troy? ... Again, congrats ... and the weather conditions made it that much more special I bet ...
Thanks for share'n your San Francisco trip ... it reminded me of how bad the smell of alcohol is on someone that's had too much to drink ... then think'n ... oh man, I must have stunk to high heaven ... back in the day ...
Oh, and yessereee, China does have some of the best 'Tea' ever ... I got 'turned on' to an internet supplier that imports 'tea' from China from StPeteDean here on this board ... I have since tried many different kinds ... some are absolutely fantastic, others, they can keep, LOL ...
If you have an interest in ordering your own, here's one of the links I have:

Thank you LTR. If anyone can get a boost from my experience, isn't that sort of the point? I've received so much from the rooms and here that I'm not sure I can give back enough.
It may be a while before I need to buy any more tea! These are the smaller bricks of green and black. The larger (2kg) brick is being used right now. The round brick is 500 grams and the rectangular one is 1500 grams.

LOL, ... the tea I get comes in 'tea pouches' ... usually 50 to a large 'Tea Tin' ... it's very good quality ... I think they're out of Florida if I'm not mistaken ... ... ...
If you got 'bricks' of 'tea', then you're probably set for a while ...
Heehee, I finally broke down and bought a 'whistling tea kettle' for my afternoon tea, LOL ... I love to hear it 'go off' and let me know it's ready to pour ... I know, I'm nuts ...

Thanks Baba Louie! Today is 99 days! Looking forward to triple digits tomorrow! And yes, it does get better and better. I'm starting to become a little friendlier at meetings and actually stay around a talk a little more.
