Congrats to Pythonpappy on achieving this noteworthy level of forum participation. Pappy has more threads, posts, and replies than ANY OTHER MEMBER OF MIP IN HISTORY!! And he's only been onboard for four years.
Check the home page for MIP AA and one cannot but be impressed by how many times his name appears: Pythonpappy, Pythonpappy, Pythonpappy...
Pythonpappy is the most prolific poster of all of MIP's 7,000 members-ever. Perhaps we can change the name to Pappy'sMIP.activeboard.com.
Well, my goodness, ... Thanks Pickle and Mikef ...
I hope everyone knows I do not participate here to try and set any sort of record ... I knew I had a sorta big mouth, but am not post'n for any other reason than to try and help, well that and I do learn lots here and have gotten very close to many members over the years ... I get emotional when I recall some great members who've decided they couldn't live without the drink and have since died because of that ... but again, some have gone on to have many, many PM's with me and others, that have gone on to establish personal email routines that allowed me to work 'one-on-one' with each other ... some with years of sobriety now ... THAT'S why I keep come'n back ... it helps keep me SOBER ...
God has blessed me in many ways, and be'n a member here is a big'un ... ... ... the rooms of AA and this board is where I learned to 'love' again, not only love my brothers and sisters in the 'program', but myself as well ... I've learned to love life rather than endure it ... and this is all I wish for us all ... and WE can't do that if we drink ...
Love you guys and God Bless, Pappy

Way to go, Paps. Your posts are a lot of help to a lot of people. I've read nothing but kind and encouraging words from you. You have a good spirit. Keep it up. You're the perfect example of good sobriety.
I love butter, Pappy! And your pear butter is outta this world. I took some of each to my mom and tried to get her to try them while I was there. We were fixing Thanksgiving fixin's and she loves brownies and I had taken some to her. Brownies are her favorite sweet. My mom, who is not a big eater like me, said she had to wait to try the pear butters. I was hoping that she would try them when I was there--I wanted to see her expression as she tried each one. So I ended up asking her to please let me know which ones she liked the best. So hopefully, she will remember to write them down. If not, I will remind her. It was so very nice of you to send those to me and greatly appreciated. You have a real talent at making them and like I said, you could go into business if you ever wanted to. I am sure those would disappear off the shelves. If you ever do end up doing it, I will be your first customer...let me know. It looked like alot of work from what I saw and although I would like to think I would one day make my own, doubt I will.

Thanks H1 one, ... this is not important ... but I do have a 'curious' nature ... I hope your mom enjoys them when she does get the chance to taste them ... (My mind was drift'n to thoughts you and your friend already ate 'em all up, LOL ...) ... good to know they made the journey to your mom ... thanks ... (See guys, I still have my 'doubt's' from time to time, LOL) ... (of course you took a bit of a detour around this point in time) ... (it's all good cause you seem to be where you're supposed to be now) ... Thank God ...

I was worried about that too, Pappy....they are so tasty! I did get them all to her. It helped me telling her that there were 4 which were coming to her...so by knowing she knew that, I think it helped me keep my greedy fingers out of them but so much. It was hard though, let me tell you. I could have sat down with one jar and finished if off in one sitting had I not told her that. You know me and sweets well enough by now, I think. And I did take a detour--I was more interested in the type of butter which is found oozing from the devil's butt for a while. And yes, Thank God! Thank you, thank you, God! I'm not wanting and needing to taste Satan's sap anymore!
I pray you're get'n your taste and speech back ... the thing that was hard for me was all the sittin' around and stuff, try'n to recover enough to get back to work'n on things ... sittin' around on my butt was for the birds ... then I'd overdo it and have 'fatigue' setbacks ... and wind up sittin' around on my butt even more, LOL ... (I'm still have'n those problems) ... maybe that's one of the reasons I went over the 9,000 mark, ??? ... LOL ...
Just for the record Dean, Tasha and I, a few months back, decided we would volunteer to be moderators ... (at the urging of you and some others here) ... I wrote John several emails say'n 'put us in coach' ... never heard a single word from him ... and nor did Tasha ... and now she spends the majority of her time elsewhere ... (not sure she'd still be interested or not) ... Unfortunately, I haven't seen him (John) post more than two or three times in the past year ... so I don't know who's mind'n the store, so to speak ... all I know is that I am grateful to him for maintain'n this web site somehow ... I know he can use the financial help from time to time ... and somehow, we always come through with the donations ... I'd love to hear from him ...
May God continue to Bless you Dean, Pappy

I think Pappy and Tasha would be excellent moderators! They both sure have helped lots of folks and have shown true dedication to this board, that's for sure.
Dean, I hope you are continuing to heal and each day that you are feeling much much better.
Going ok. I visit another message board for AA, but i miss this board. Life is good. Working in adult rehab again. It has lots of challenges. These are mostly serious heroin addicts who have been through up to 20 rehabs by age 24 or so. Sometimes is it taxing to be around that much sickness.
I would think it hard not to 'pre-judge' whether all the work you do there actually helps some people or not ... but ya gotta try anyway huh ??? ... you gotta have more patience than I ... I pray your own sobriety is on 'solid footing' ... God Bless your work ...
Love ya man and God Bless, Pappy

With that many posts you might consider setting up a Site of your own. :)
If you want I could show you how to set up a PHPBB3 Forum and HowItWorks.
Maybe John could give you a little WebSpace for it.
Thanks Marc, but I still have some medical issues to contend with, so it can be hard at times to keep up here, much less start my own board ... but I DO appreciate the gesture ...
Thanks guys, love ya and God Bless, Pappy

There would be a huge hole on this board were Pappy ever to leave. Pappy is the main reason I keep coming back and I'll bet there are quite a few who feel the same way I do.
This board is fortunate to have him be a part of it.
God Bless you guys for the kind comments ... the MIP board is one of my main sources for stay'n sober ... though the topics sometimes strays from our primary intent here, it's still a great source for help'n others with their alcohol addiction ... it is a good place for those have'n problems to seek help and advice ... My goal is to try and keep it that way ...
While I'm at it, I could use your prayers for an upcoming surgical procedure ... and it may cause me to be absent here for a day or two ... Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. I am to check-in at the local hospital for the surgeon to make a large incision in my neck and remove a massive artery blockage to my left side brain ... hopefully, this will cure the dizzy spells I get frequently everyday now ... (no comments Pickle or Marc, LOL) ... I've already conjured up all kinds of excuses for my behavior lately, LOL ... but I have not even though of have'n a drink ... that's what's great about our program ... (the desire to drink is gone) ... (as long as we stay in fit spiritual condition) ...
Love all youse guys, and God Bless y'all, Pappy

Prayers up for you, Pappy. That sounds pretty scarey. May God continue to Bless you and give you peace and healing through this time. And there has been nothing wrong with your behavior imo. You're GRRRRREAT! (I just imagined Tony the Tiger saying that...I used to love that furry guy!)
Years ago I had a stroke which nearly killed me so I don't joke about health issues.
And I have health issues of my own to contend with these days.
So I hope the procedure goes well for you and there are no complications.
Yeah, I've had 3 strokes ... 4 years ago, very severe headache ... no pain pill could touch it, in ER they gave me a morphine injection ... they came back in 30 minutes and asked, how's the headache, I said what headache ...
Then during my radiation treatment, Feb, of last year, I wound up in ER again with a speech problem ... I knew what was go'n on around me, but my words made no sense to anyone ... hospital kept me overnite and released me the next day ... then my new Doc put me on Clopadogrel, a stroke preventor ...
THEN last month I woke up with a blind spot in my left eye ... my Doc sent me to a 'retina' specialist, he did a dye injection study and took pics of my left eye and said I'd had a mini stroke in my retina ... he sent me to have a carotid artery study and they found 70+ percent blockage there ... now I have another Doc, a Vascular Surgeon ... this is the dude that's go'n to cut me open Tues. ... he gonna roto-router that stuff out it seems ... I am not a very happy camper right now ... gotta be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. ...
Strokes are noth'n to sneeze at, they can be very debilitating and fatal ... I guess I should be grateful they found this now ... but I'll be more grateful to wake up late Tues. without severe impairment ...
Glad you survived your stroke Marc, you have to take any special meds for that now??? ...
I'm only a couple years older than you, I think ...

During the first year recovering from stroke I was prescribed Zoloft(antidepressant) and coumadin(blood thinner)
I haven't taken any meds for years and I feel ok. I'm gonna' have to give up cigarettes, though, so I don't end up with lung disease or something. Yeah, I know it is insane, I've had a stroke and I'm still smoking. :)
Oh man, I decided, during all the mayhem, that I too, must stop the cigs ... they tell me that the cigs 'promote' strokes plus lead to early death(lung disease) ... so when I go to my Pri. Care Doc next week, I'm go'n to ask for a Chantix prescript ... I've stopped with that before, years ago, so I'm give'n it another try ... Coffee just don't go down as well without a cigarette, damn ... But, like with the alcohol, if we don't stop now, it will be a slow and painful death ...
Ya know, I remember AA meet'ns be'n listed as 'smoking' or 'non-smoking' ... our government took care of that though, now you have to go behind the trees to smoke, if you can find any trees that is, LOL ...

I am glad you both are around after what you have been through.
Some of the meetings in my area do not allow smoking anywhere near the meeting place. One church--not anywhere on the whole block--not in the parking lot, not anywhere near it! And there is a different church beside it and we cannot smoke around it. If someone dares try it before a meeting, they will make a comment about it not being allowed. I had one person stare me down because before the meeting I was on the opposite side of the road of the church, at the very end of the block from it, standing on a strip of grass next to the street which I thought belonged to the city. That was the last time I tried that. A preacher at another location threatened to close down our meeting place if she found anymore cig butts on the sidewalk in front of the church area. (Smoking is allowed in the back as long as butts are not left on the ground). That is a very high traffic area for walkers and people in cars going by could throw cigs out. I look for one day smoking outside to be banned in most areas. Oh, I was smoking outside in an area (not a meeting place) where it is permitted and two different times people walked by me and started this obnoxious coughing and "gagging". Made me feel a little guilty and I had to light another one up just to help get over it.
Thanks Baba, and to everyone else ... tomorrow's the big day and i'm get'n more paranoid by the minute ... noth'n to eat or drink after mid-night and be there at 5:30 a.m. ...
StPeteDean recently went through some of this and I pray he's still do'n well ...

@Pythonpappy - May the Lord grant you peace today. May He guide the hands of the surgeon as they remove the blockage. I pray that your recovery is smooth and uneventful and that you get some rest. Amen.
Pappy....that pic of you after your surgery......I didn't recognize you at all....and me not being the quickest person finally figured out that you didn't have your beard. Know it must have been hard for you to have to shave it off. I do have to say that side of your face in the pic looks so much younger.
Younger huh??? .... hummmm ... may need to rethink this beard thingy ... LOL ...
Actually, I grow one in the Fall to help keep me warm outdoors during the Winter ... usually shave it off in the Spring anyway, only this time it was a few weeks early, LOL ... go'n to try my first 'shower' (since surgery) here in a few minutes ... (let me 'have it' Marc) ... just now feel strong enough to ...
