PEOPLE (places and things)

Hi all!

Finally have a decent amount of time. There are certain old friends from my previous life that are extremely active people who could end up in the rooms in 10-20 years (but that's not for me to presume, but you know what I mean).

I have 2 people who text/call/email me multiple times a week wondering where I am, why am I MIA. These are people involved in my greater social circle (college/industry). I do not feel comfortable telling them my situation because they cannot keep secrets (I know from the past). This is another reason why this is a conundrum (I am able to explain to other understanding people who I know I can trust. And usually the most active people (like the 2 I'm writing about) react in the worst way.

Any advice? Sorry for the long-winded post!

Henry

Congrats on your sober time.
Your business is really just that--your business. You do not owe anyone any explanation--particularly drinkers who may ask questions and try to challenge you about your decision. Do whatever it takes to stay sober and lean more on those you can and do trust and try not to worry about the others--particularly ones you do not trust.

welcome to MiP Henry.

I did not have that problem , even 29yrs later . No one from my past has ever contacted me . EVER.

For Your sake . I would "stretch the truth" . Mine was Real . I Did have a Head injury . I'd had a steel

bar through my face . To workmates , I would say , that accident knocked me around a bit worse that I thought.

Or , th bump on my head is playing up again . Subtle little things to throw , them off as to me not drinking .

You see Henry . I WAS Warned . NOT To GO Back to my "old environment" . one analogy.

Daniel , did NOT go back into the lions den to get his cap . &

sit in a barbers chair & you may get a haircut , sleep with dogs , you may get fleas .

BUT Henry . You may have to "fake it to make it" for a while . We Allways came up with "Great excuses"

when we were drinking . I Can certainly come up with Better Reasons as to why , I am mia.

Go well Henry.

Welcome to MIP Henry, ...

You could tell your two drink'n friends that you've not been feel'n well lately and have decided to 'lay off' the booze for a while ... they need not know you're go'n to AA or simply try'n to stay sober ... H1 is right, that's your own business ... and ZZ's right, we do not want to tempt fate by sit'n in the barber shop if you don't want a haircut, cause if you sit there long enough, you'll wind up with a haircut ...

Glad you joined us Henry ... hope to see more of you ...

Love ya man and God Bless,
Pappy

h1236, your sobriety is the most important thing in your life. And you must avoid distractions from it. Remember what ole Polonius said to Laertes:

This above all: to thine own self be true.

Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 3

Everybody that knew or knows me, was glad I quit drinking. If you had to be around me, you'd be glad I quit, too.
