Start by not having a drink today. Try to find an AA meeting in your area, and go to it. Youll probably be a little nervous about going, but it's really not a big deal. It's just a bunch of people who are like you, and me, they've had enough of alcohol, so they get together to share stories about why alcohol sucks so bad, and try to give each other advice to stay off the stuff.
Theres no membership fees, you don't have to sign any papers or anything like that. You just go and listen. And, you can ask people questions or tell your story.
Theres a book called "Alcoholics Anonymous" that gives us some ideas on how to stay quit, and some stories in it by people who have managed to not drink for a long time. It's good reading.
Here, on this forum, we just talk about different things related to alcohol, give each other advice, ask questions, and try help anybody else who wants to escape the alcohol trap. It's the same type of stuff you'll hear at an AA meeting.
Anyway, welcome, Beemer.
Without getting too deep and philosophical, I can tell you, for sure, without a doubt, 100%, that life without alcohol is 10 times better than it is with it. I'm not that smart, and I don't know very much, but, that, my friend, is the honest truth.
Beemer, maybe you could tell us some basic stuff...like, how long have you been drinking? Or, how long have you not been drinking? What made you decide to stop, or, are you just thinking about stopping? Have you tried to stop before? (That kind of stuff)
Hey Troy, ... Congrats on Day 3, ... this is usually the day I'd quit and go back to drink'n ... cause I felt just a tiny better and thought I'd never let it get this bad 'AGAIN' ... after many, many times of repeating this same process, one day, I finally said enough's enough ... I have to put sobriety first ... That's the day I said 'I'll go to any length to get and stay sober' ...
This day may get a little rough, go to at least a couple meetings if at all possible ... they'll carry you through til you get to think'n better ... the meetings helped me get through the rough times ... those guys 'n gals loved me until I could learn to love myself again ...
Love ya and God bless, Pappy
