Anyone recommend any good, uplifting TV shows, movies, or albums for early recovery? Just fun, light stuff to get a person out of their alcoholic brain for a little bit :) I'm asking half for me and half because I feel like the board could use a little but of levity. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. -A

Well everyone has their own sense of humor, but The Big Bang Theory can be pretty funny. Also Modern Family, Seinfeld, The Office, maybe Married With Children. And if you want a movie, Bridesmaids is pretty funny.
Yeah, I like "Bridesmaids" as well. Funny stuff. I also like these films: Caddyshack, Happy Gilmore and of course "The Shawshank Redemption". Just what the doctor ordered.
I just read "Drinking a Love Story" by Caroline Knapp. Very satisfied with that one. The only other book I read, recently, was "The Shack". Very powerful indeed.
I don't watch too much T.V, but when I do it always is a comedy. The shows, mentioned earlier, are some of my favorites.
As far as music goes, I like classical and contemporary. It's either Josh Groban, Mozart or some movie soundtrack the gets me in the mood. Any soundtrack by Thomas Newman is some of the best ever. I hope this helps.
P.S. I'm having good weekend, how about you?

I love The Office. Just finished the series up a few weeks ago :) Also love Shawshank Redemption. Actually feels a bit like a fitting metaphor. Ha. I appreciate all the recommendations. I forgot about Modern Family - I used to watch that when it first came out and stopped a few years ago. I'll have to dig that up. And the first book I ever read about alcoholism was Drinking: A Love Story. I should re-read it. As for my weekend, yesterday was actually pretty rough. It was one of those days when I felt my disease inside me thrashing around and begging for its fix. I didn't yield, by the grace of God, and ended up having a good night and much better morning.

One of the funniest shows I have ever seen is Impractical Jokers. I also just started watching Cutthroat Kitchen where the chefs have to use the strangest/funniest objects to cook with. One of them last week had to have a large anchor attached to her so she was dragging, carrying the thing around trying to get her dish prepared before the time ran out. One guy had to use a kid's plastic mixer to mix a cake and another person had to fashion any utensils he used for his meal out of electrical wire. Good stuff for me. I was watching too many of those ID and true crime shows and although I love detective shows and especially when they nab the bad guys/gals, I found them to be terribly depressing. So I mainly try and watch uplifting shows now. I was feeling down a few weeks ago and found reading inspirational things online as well as things like Keep it Simple, Daily Meditations (AA) extremely helpful, especially first thing in the morning after my morning prayers.
Just riding through the rocky patches is just part of life that at first I found very difficult, and now is easier for me as long as I keep my sobriety and program number one priority in my life.
If you liked "The Office.", you'd probably like the movie "Office Space" Also, a recovery movie I've always found funny is "28 Days" with Sandra Bullock (not sure if that's because I've been through a treatment center or because my sense of humor is warped). Also "Little Miss Sunshine", "There's Something About Mary", and "The Burbs", "Trading Places".
