My sponsor died

I lost my sponsor, Sue D., over the weekend while out of town.  She had only recently gone into Hospice and I was fortunate enough to have visited her before i left.  She had 29 years of sobriety.  She died with grace and dignity, surrounded by people in the fellowship.  She was referred to as the "Den Mother" of her home group which was not my home group.  Fortunately, she did not sponsor me like a Den Mother.  I have already "interviewed" two women for possible sponsorship.  I am always amazed at how HP works.  My home group has a dirth of longer term female sobriety and I've been around the rooms for awhile.  all of a sudden, these two women with lengthy sobriety start attending my group & I'm hearing what I want in a sponsor.  Where I'm from we ask people to give us worksheet talks, they tell you their story one on one, so I lined both up to give me a worksheet talk and one spoke to me a tad more.  We're having an AA memorial for her tonight at our local head quarters.  I really miss my sponsor - I really love that woman.  As one guy in my group recently said after losing his mom, I'm grateful that I can feel all the feelings I'm feeling today!

In gratitude,

Jan

Welcome Jan....Sounds like you were given a gift having her in your life. It also sounds like she will live on in your group. That is something to be grateful for. I'm sure your HP will put you in good hands. Thank you for your share...And I'm glad you are with us.

It's sad to hear about your sponsor passing away.  She sounds like an extraordinary woman that you were blessed to have in your life.  It might just be possible that she's already had a hand in picking out your next sponsor.  She'd never leave you in incapable hands, I'm sure.

Blessings, Mike D.

I feel sorry about that. Your sponsor is such a nice mentor. She'll be on my prayer. May she always continue to guide you.
