I have put good use to my computer this morning. I have two numbers to call later that will hopefully lead to me getting a ride. When I do I am going to try the 90 meetings in 90 days. I appreciate everyone who has given me advice on here so far. I also intend on starting Chapter 5 of the Big Book today. I am in this for the long haul. It's time for me to be sober once and for all.
It looks like you're beginning to do some things that will move you in the direction of sobriety. You're making an attempt to get to A.A. meetings, you're reading the Big Book, and you're reaching out for help and support from others in A.A. Good job! These beginning actions will make a huge difference. Make no mistake.....this is only a beginning. There's plenty more to do. But, in A.A., we keep it simple and we do one little thing at a time.
As the ensuing days come and go, you'll have lots of feelings -- both negative and positive. I hope you will always be able to talk openly about your feelings, whether it be in A.A. meetings or on this board. Remember, everyone in A.A. has already experienced everything you're experiencing. And, above all......please don't worry. Everything will be alright.
Glad to hear you're in it for the long haul. Me too. I'm not a big proponent on starting books in the middle....Especially that one. But as you are reading chapter 5 you're going to see this.....
Our description of the alcoholic, the chapter to the agnostic, and our personal adventures before and after make clear three pertinent ideas: (a) That we were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives. (b) That probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism. (c) That God could and would if He were sought. Being convinced, we were at Step Three

If that doesn't make a lot of sense to you...That's because the description of the alcoholic is The Doctor's Opinion and Chapters 1 through 3...The chapter to the agnostic is chapter 4 and the personal adventures are the stories told there. Those three ideas are what we need to know to have covered the first two steps. You'll hear different things in AA.....My sponsor was more concerned that I was convinced of those three things than anything else. So I started in the beginning....I didn't even know what alcoholism was That's where I learned it. You can do this program anyway you want to....I'm just sharing what worked for me.
I love hearing this willingness. Keep posting here. I came upon this site when I had just over 60 days sober. In the meetings I attended, they awarded "Pink chips" for 60 days. Hence, the moniker I have here. It's 5 and a half years later and still sober. You can do this by following suggestions and being willing like you showed in terms of the transportation and getting to meetings. Do the same with getting a sponsor and working the steps.

Excellent attitude to bring into recovery ... as you will learn, 'sobriety' had to become the NUMBER 1 priority in our lives, else noth'n will ever matter ... we must take control of our lives back from alcohol ... we had to stop letting alcohol make all our decisions ... you have found the solution to gaining an 'alcohol free' life here in AA ... we are living proof it CAN be done, with the proper guidance ... good job ...
We learned how 'not to drink' no matter what happens ...
Love ya and God Bless, Pappy
