At the meeting I went to last night, we had a woman newcomer. It was her first meeting. I looked behind me where the AA literature was displayed because I wanted to get a "Where and When" book to pass around and get numbers for her to call. There were not any. A couple of other members looked for them too. This is the biggest meeting I go to, as far as turn out and it usually has 100+ people attending. I gave her my number, as did another member, but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any of these books and it is not the first time they have run out. I hate to ask one of the home group members because I don't want to come across as being critical and am not sure who the homegroup members even are as they don't raise their hands at this meeting like they do others. Anyway, I was wondering if it was anything wrong with getting a couple of books from another meeting to carry with me in case they don't have any in the future. I know these books cost each group money and I just am not sure if this is the right thing to do because of that.
I would not get them from another meeting as they do cost money that comes from that group's treasury. I would talk to the secretary of that group and just let them know they are running low on the books and it's up to them from there.

I suggest finding out when they have their 'group conscience' meeting and attend one ... that's the place to bring up a subject like this ... they can put it up for discussion and resolve the problem there ...

Thanks to you both. I guess a good rule of thumb is..that if something doesn't quite feel right to me to do is to not do it. Glad I checked with you and appreciate it.
I don't see anything wrong with carryin a couple of them books for just such an occasion.
don't think there would be anything wrong with mentioning It to the chairperson of the meeting either. they may not know they don't have em.
Hi BTY, I think the most important thing here is that YOU reached out to that newcomer and gave her your number. That's a good thing. Hope she calls you. Blessings, Mike D.
Me too, Mike. I have a couple of extra books of mine. I am going to tear out the names and keep those in my purse. Noticed at last night's meeting, which is at same location, but a different home group...there were no W&W books there either. There weren't any newcomers, but I thought to myself that I really need to check here for any extras.
Pappy, I never have heard them announce any group conscious meetings, however, I may not have had my listening ears on if it was announced.
Yep, ... some groups announce them at every meeting and others will usually announce it the particular week they have it ... they're usually just before or just after one of the regular meetings ...
and as suggested above, I've been known to carry a couple extras in the car with me ... that's when there are plenty to go around ... if there were only 3 or 4 left at the meeting, I'd just wait til they got replenished before grabbing a couple to carry with me ... (I do like to be prepared) ... and it doesn't hurt to mention things like this to a group member ... sometimes these things can go unnoticed ...
