Exhaustion detox and coffee

One month on the first. Feeling better but I'm wondering if others were exhausted when first sober? I ran around like a teenager when I was getting loaded now it seems like my body is getting revenge. Coffee helps the mind but my body is still down. Does anyone know how long it takes to repair the body? I should get a physical but that is a bit overwhelming right now. I'm not sick, just tiered.

Change happens Liz...creating new habits usually takes 90 days of working the new intention and there will be reactions other places in our system.   Our bodies, minds, spirits and emotions heal when supported to...Keep on keeping on.    (((hugs))) smile

I am still tired a lot. I asked the same thing and it differs for people depending on different factors like age, duration and quantity you drank. You are still young and hopefully it won't take you as long as me. I know in the past when I got sober before, it didn't take nearly as long. But since I am older and my drinking was so much worse this last time, it is taking a lot longer. I cut down on my coffee the other day and could tell a big difference in my energy level. I also smoke (cigarettes) and I know if I cut those out I'd feel that much better, so I am doing things that I know aren't good for me, but I tell my self that at least I am sober and I feel I will stop smoking and cut back on the caffeine in time.

I have had some of the strangest dreams. I am not sure I would really call them nightmares. I had more of those when I was drinking. But the ones I have now I feel that they are lessons or some kind of messages that I need to pay attention to. If only I can remember them all instead of bits and pieces. I'm still waiting for that "Go, go go", but I did stay up late and make some cookies and a cake for the AA New Year's Dance which is amazing, because usually I have had no energy in the evenings, so that is encouraging.

I went through the same thing BTY described below ... If you don't feel really sick right now, I'd hold off seeing the doctor, however, when you do get to 90+ days, a good physical is something I'd recommend ... blood work can highlight deficiencies in your body that may need a boost ... it can only make you feel better physically to have this done ...

Also, after about 60-90 days sober, I got this burst of energy that I'll never forget, I couldn't find enough to do ... I mean I went around fix'n everything that needed fix'n and cleaning everything in sight ... must have had the cleanest house on the block, LOL ... and my wife didn't bitch about a thing, LOL ... she loved it ...
This particular period of healing affects us all differently ... hopefully soon, you'll get into the 'zone' ...

Good question and post Liz!  I would say it impacts folks differently like the others have said.  I do believe in the AA message P64 BB: that once the Spiritually Malady is overcome- we straighten out physically and mentally.  As an Alcoholic, a lot of our energy is zapped without moving a muscle.  It's the mental and emotional part of our diesase.  I can get myself more drained with worry, anxiety and fear than when I ran a 1/2 marathon.  This is the head that won't shut off- it's also part of the Spiritual Malady.  Some call it mental gymnastics.  biggrin

It will improve over time.  Give time- time.  You're going to feel so much better soon.  smile

Thank and your right that is one of the promises in the big book. Quitting smoking and drinking at the same time might be stupid but if I'm gonna be miserable might as well do it all at once. Pack and a half and drinking for days on end will wear you out. Fuck it one month tomorrow I'm not going back!

It was soooo amazing to me when I started learning about the sub-conscious continuing to record when I was under the influence and even during blackouts.   It then fed the recordings back to me in the form of dreams and nightmares.  I suffered from nightmares for decades into my early sixties and when I was able to decypher the dream and nightmares I came to understand the power of the conscious and subconscious mind.  Last evening I was watching a show and the advertisers quickly slid a "fine Pilsner Beer ad in front of me.  I didn't even see it all and I never ever used that brand however my consciousness did a strong knee jerk and stated..."I want that"!...The recordings are still there because I impressed them there with long steady justified drinking.   I expect it to happen again and won't be surprised.   smile
