I know I did a lot of that in the past, still do ... and the result of such 'light duty' work is a growing friendship and love with fellow sufferers ... it affords the opportunity to develop the 'lifelong' friends the BB talks of ... simple?, ... yes ... the rewards are immense though ...

Thanks Mike B

I love doing servicework at several of the meetings I attend. It is giving me more confidence by making me feel like I am helping others and doing something very worthwhile as well as helping me be more social as I get there early and stay later to clean up and have more time to talk to other alcoholics and get to know them. Several others have started to offer to help me, which at first I told them I could get it, I realized that it is helping them, too. And when I commit in advance to helping, it makes it that much more difficult for me to drink as other alcoholics are depending on me to make coffee, open, etc. and I may be able to let myself down in the future (with my stinking thinking) but I cannot let them down. So I am always going to try to have some kind of service work lined up in advance to do to protect myself from myself and to help others. Great Post, Mike B.
