How can I believe in God when just last week I got my tongue caught in the roller of an electric typewriter?
--Woody Allen

If our introduction to religion and God was filled with threats of punishment and hell it would make perfect sense for us not to want to believe in something so scary. Even though we may have been taught that God is love, we may not have witnessed a lot of God's love in action.

All we are asked to do in recovery is to believe in a Higher Power. That could mean God, or it could simply mean the sober people who are helping us to recover. Our Higher Power is there, watching over us, ready to be seen in any way we are willing and able to see.

Today let me decide for me what kind of God I believe in.

So True!  AA and The Spiritual Principles for life was my HP until I took the 12 Steps to find my own.  Even today, when my diesase talks to me and tries to defy God, my thoughts go back to AA and The Principles.  It works, don't really understand the "why's", but it works.  What more do I need...........  Thanks, Paps!

I tell my sponsees the same thing ... I tell them to just work it, don't try to understand, cause it'll just cloud your mind ... one day, when you're least expecting it, BAM, you get it, or a piece of it, and you'll think, wow, how dumb was I to ever need to question things to the n'th degree ... it's all so very simple ... not 'easy' perhaps, but simple !!! ... ... ...
