My sponcer passed away

My sponcer passed away the other day after a long battle with cancer.  I wrote this poem for him and he read right before he died. I will remember "the big D" always.

Remember me.

Remember me when the days are long,
for I will not be here to share them with you.
Remember me on short nights
when sleep eludes you and I am not there to wipe away your tears.
Remember that I was not a great man, nor rich or powerful, but
Remember me as a simple man of faith and that God loves us all.
Do not let me die in vain and please remember my joy in life it's self.
I did not want riches, but a warm day to set my clubs upon a grassy hill to play a game of golf.
I did not want fame, but wanted good friends to share the joy of a simple program.
I did not wish power, but to be powerless to a loving God so I may have achieved true humility.
I do not walk through the valley of the shadow of death, but
bask in the glory of light of life everlasting.
Please remember me in life and not the pallor of death, for I cast off my life on earth for angel wings.
I will remember you always as I walk with God.

What an honor it must have been to have you as a sponsee. Giving him that poem in advance was very generous on your part.

Take care and cherish the time you had with him.

Thanks Guys.  He was a great sponcer and he was a credit to me not the other way around.  I was a good sponcee though and never really caused him problems being he was so sick and all.  I think that tamed me some with him needing a sponcee whom was going to work hard and not drink.  I wrote him another poem and his wife needle pointed and framed it for him. He was like an older brother or a dad to me.  I needed a male sponcer at the time I asked him because I was having a hard time relating to the women in my group.  Lots of controversy about a male sponcering a female, but he did't care as a matter of fact he kind of liked doing his own thing at times. It just got a little sicky doing my 5th with him LOL.

Zoomie,"The big D" must have been proud of you and what a way to honor your sponsor. I'm so sorry for your loss, good sponsors are hard to find great sponsor are even harder. I have had a few who have died and it's still hard to walk into a meeting somedays and know they won't be there. There are days I still catch myself going to the phone to call Lady Jo....and remember she's not there. There is a lot of negative said about old timers...but I miss their wisdom, their shares of their experience, strength and hope.

What a witness you are to this man and his legacy.

(((Hugs)))

So sorry to hear about your sponsor.  He sounds like he was a good man and a great sponsor, Your Poem was very Beautiful, and I'm sure it filled his heart with love in those final moments.

You are in my Prayers today, and I remember you speaking of him (your sponsor) with so much affection.  He was a real Blessing in your life, and you were a Blessing in His.

God Bless you Zoomie, and if you need to write a Private Message, I'm here. Take good care of YOU today.

Love, you Sister, Toni
