Sometimes a majority simply means that all the fools are on the same side. --Claude McDonald
If we're to stay straight, we have to be prepared for peer pressure. If anyone tries to get us to use or do what we know is wrong, we have to be prepared. Whether we're prepared to walk away, say "No thanks," avoid slippery places, or actually tell someone we're recovering, it doesn't matter. What matters most is knowing in advance what our plan is. If we are prepared, we'll handle peer pressure well.
Some of us say, "No one pressures me - I don't have to worry." If we realize there will often be pressure, we can accept it and be prepared. The only person who can truly pressure us is ourselves. When we accept this, we have all the power we need to say no, because we are saying yes to ourselves.

I'm pretty used to going against the world these days. I'm glad I conformed for a while to sober up - now I'm back to doing my own thing within reason and searching for balance with it all. It's fun. I guess I heard it here "My program could make you drunk" or something like that.
I don't do it all perfectly these days, and I do put my family ahead of AA lots of times. For some that is the devil in me. Others get it. If I feel I need my medicine - I take it. If I feel I really don't need my medicine - I make sure and take a double dose. That seems to be working out for me : )

Hi Tasha, ... that's called 'growth' ... ... ... I tell my sponsees that this is a 'very selfish' program for the first year at least, cause we must do everything in our power to learn how to stay sober ... when that has been accomplished, then we can start giving back ... BUT, with continued sobriety, we learn that we can spend time doing what we used to ignore ... and like you said, we 'adjust' our dose of medicine to keep our sobriety on-going ... ... ... and I agree, this is where we learn 'balance' ... ... ... Why else would we want to get sober to start with, we want to return to 'life' ... and that means sharing it with family ...
Of course there are those who, in their own circumstances, can have the time to dedicate more time to helping others than those of us with family needs ... sobriety, is priority number 1 ...
