Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad became the first person to swim the treacherous waters from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage on Monday, arriving in Key West two days after starting her 110-mile trek.
This inspirational endeavor is an analogue to the working of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. We are not being asked to be "succesful" in AA, only that we continue to try to be.
Nyad was a champion long before she set foot on the Key West beach a few minutes ago, after four prior "failures."
Yoda was wrong. There is try.
This is true for all members of AA.

The theme of today's meeting was "keep it simple," and we talked a lot about making small steps of progress to accomplish a large goal. Wish I had learned about this long ago :D Good for Diana and that awesome accomplishment!

She's pretty awesome, especially for a 64 year old. I was a competitive swimmer from age 7-18. Probably swam 30,000 miles in training, but the most ever in one day was about 4.5. I cannot imagine doing what she did. I do a lot of scuba diving and often on the east coast of FL, only about 1-5 miles offshore. One time the wife and I lost sight of the dive boat, waves were 3'-5', we were about 3 miles from shore and it was late in the afternoon. I was very concerned about making the swim (3hours) at dusk when the sharks come in to feed. That lady is as brave as they come.
Oh man, just the thought of the sharks coming in would have been enough of an incentive for me to do a 4 minute mile ... LOL ... ... ... and one thing is for sure, your wife is a lot braver than I've ever been ...!!! ... ... ... Well, that or she figured she's a faster swimmer than you are thereby figuring that the sharks would get you first, LOL ...
