I had Pandora running in the background a little while ago and I don't know why, but the song that came on stuck me right about where I am in recovery at this point ... it's by Fleetwood Mac and a happy sort of tune ... When the phrase 'You don't know what it's like to win' came across, I was thinking about 'winning' ... winning out over the influence King Alcohol used to have on me ... cause it's definitely a battle ... This put me in a good mood, hope it does the same for you ... (I don't know if this song is about drugs and alcohol or not ... but for me, it was ...)(I never want to go back to the way it was ...) ... enjoy!

When I initially got sober, I went through my iPod and realized that I pretty much had the perfect soundtrack to both suicidal despair and blind rage downloaded. Oftentimes I would come home after the 'bar pit- stop' to continue drinking alone with my headphones on. I call it the 'alcoholic insanity playlist'. Well, I still have much of it, but I added a ton of other favorites to it, more uplifting and stuff that reminds me that I don't have to go back there. This was amongst the first I added! Always loved the song:)

Music has always held a strong place in my life. My Pops played the trumpet. I bang on the piano, don't really play all that well, but I enjoy it. Col, I love the "alcoholic insanity playlist." I also suffered from the drinking alone after parties/events, always had to keep the party going, usually passing out with the headphones on?! I was under the false impression that everything signified more when I was drunk. So I falsely believed, to experience things more significantly I'd have to get blasted and find the secret significance to life?!? Cunning, baffling, and powerful!! All that drunk listening did was waste my ears a little!!

Thanks Pythonpappy, for showing me the music today. I love music sober today. I go to concerts and remain sober today. I am the designated driver of our group. Watching others who may or not have our disease is just one of those things that happen when you stop drinking. Booze is everywhere, so, if you intend on doing fun things, booze will be there, we just have to practice our sobriety and keep on living.
I remember when I thought I'd never be able to go to the Hollywood Bowl, Dodger's or Laker's games because I wasn't drinking. That was early on in my sobriety, I need to remember those days so I can enjoy these days!!

Let the music play on!!
