Hi All,

Long time, no post! I just wanted to reconnect because I have been away for a while and have suffered as a result. Long story short is that I was visiting my in-laws for the past week and I had no access to internet. In addition to that lifeline being taken away, my in-laws are all extremely heavy drinkers, so the overwhelming majority of the week consisted of talking to deeply inebriated people. I hated it. I took time away for myself, however, and brought along some good books. I feel like I need a good cleanse because I have so much negativity to shake off, but I had a great venting session with my therapist this morning and am continuing to work the program to find myself back on track. The good news is that I didn't often feel tempted to drink - mostly because everyone around me reminded me how it feels and looks to be drunk. It was gross. The bad news is that I think being around it so much, on some level, caused me to start thinking with a lot of resentment and anger that I don't generally experience these days. But, again, I'm aware of it and taking all the steps necessary to re-boot my thinking into a more positive framework. At least, I am certainly trying :P I hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying the summer. As always, thanks for reading.

-Adam

Hi Adam. You said an interesting thing that mirrors my experience. Whenever I've been in situations that involve heavy drinking, I haven't been tempted to imbibe myself, but I have felt emotionally and spiritually dragged down. If you're in a group of heavy drinkers, the feeling of despair can be palpable and overwhelming. I'm not saying that as a judgment of course, because I was in that place once.

I'm very pleased to hear that you made it through with flying colors. Keep the faith!

Thanks for posting Adam. I find that's what happens to me sometimes. I have to also reconnect and remind myself that I am still an alcoholic.

Thanks for the post Adam, ... and congrats for practicing the principles of the program ... your right, it's not always easy due to all the 'negativity', and of course it's a great relief when we finally pass thru that mess to emerge on the positive side ...

Thanks for helping to keep me sober today ...

Love ya man and God Bless,
Pappy

Good to hear from you Adam!  Sounds like a remember when situation.  Nice to hear that you see it through different eye's today.  Spiritual eye's.  The environment sounds like a breeding ground for sickness.  Something I try to limit my time with today.  I'd much rather be around a positive, Spiritual enviroment.  Sounds like you do too.  Continue on my friend.  smile
