Two Days

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed for ever beyond our control

All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and poor performance. Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendour or behind a mask of clouds - but it will rise. Until it does we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is as yet unborn.

This leaves only one day - Today. Anyone can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities - Yesterday and Tomorrow - that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives you mad - it is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow will bring.

This describes my current state. Resentments and guilt coupled with fear of what is to come. I don't like it.

 Hi Chaya, ...

This is exactly why we work the steps ... 'Resentments and fear' crumble and disappear as we work our way through the steps ... what happens tomorrow becomes immaterial  ... 'Today' is the most important day in our lives ... 'Today', I choose not to drink so I won't 'miss it' ... it can be the best day in my life or the worst day in my life or somewhere in-between ... But it is up to me to chose how I will feel 'Today' ... ... ... I can chose to feel about as good or as bad as I want to, it just depends on how I look at things ... if I want to worry myself sick over what 'MIGHT' happen tomorrow, then by all means, I can make myself sick ... I can even invite the 'guilt' of the past back into my thinking and become miserable once again, or I can choose to learn from it and make my life better today by not repeating the past ...

The AA principles have given me choices today that I didn't know I had in the past ... Let's take advantage of them ...

Love you and God Bless,

Pappy
