I do some hobby construction, and I am trying to finish up another house project. It seems like this job should be easy after finishing the last job 10 days ago, but I am really having trouble getting it done. I have an advanced plan that includes painting and flooring then trim work, and they are all laid out in order.
1. Patch bad spots on wall
1. Cut trim for bathroom
2. Put first coat of paint on bedroom
3. First coat of paint on trim at same time.
4. Lay out plastic sheeting in second bedroom
5. Second coat on 1st bedroom and trim
6. Move kitchen cabinet into bedroom 1
7. Vinyl kitchen floor
8. Kitchen cabinet back into kitchen
9. Trim kitchen
10. Trim bath
11. Carpet bedroom 1
12. Paint bedroom 2
13. Move everything from laundry room into kitchen
14. 2nd coat on bedroom 2
15. Vinyl and retrim laundry room
16. Clean up and move on.
When I think of all this together, it overwhelms and depresses me. To fix that, I am setting up Pandora so I can listen to specific music, I am bringing all my "old cassette tapes" (remember those?) AND I am going to allow myself just to get to step 5 today. I would love to get it all done, but I am not going to set myself up for a letdown. Many times if I allow myself an "out" at step 5 (as an example) I end up progressing to a further step and feel accomplishment rather than going into this with a vague thought of accomplishing all of it and feeling let down and enslaved by the project. This is the thinking AA has taught me. Keep it simple. Thanks AA.

Love this post, Tom! I have attempted to embark on several projects since I have more free time than usual lately. I end up frustrated and doing the self pity thing when I give up halfway through because I get overwhelmed. I like how you broke it down into manageable steps. I do this with my days often- If I don't have a 'to-do' list I'll wind up watching 8 hours of 'Game of Thrones' or something while chastising myself for not getting anything done LOL. AA has pretty much taught me/ is teaching me how to do life. I feel like I'm being raised by AA, if that makes sense:) One small step at a time.

You're funny Tom ... I make the same kind of list when I go to my son's house ... I think, okay, two, three days tops ... last time I was there, I was there for three and a half weeks ... LOL
The AA factor got me good ... ... ... Age & Add-ons ... ... ...
