Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

I think about that verse a lot too. I thought it was meladramatic and cheezy before AA. Now I truly do see amazing grace in the way my HP has allowed wonderful changes to occur in my recovery. I am not the same suffering sad self-sabotaging person anymore. I didn't know how to be different for all those years I hid in the bottle. Now I see :)

This is a wonderful 'revelation' as long as it is followed by action ... if we SEE what our problem is and don't take steps to correct what's wrong, then we're doubly damned to repeat our mistakes of the past ... ... for some of us, that means death ...

So, ... if we indeed SEE the solution in front of us, it is our responsibility to take action to make sure we are living the solution ...

I just sang it about 19 times at the piano - and 25 or so on the guitar. Thanks for inspiring a great night!

Good to see you back here : )

It was sung last Saturday at my 41 year old friends funeral service. Then I delivered my eulogy. She drank herself to death. Liver died six months ago. She was prescribed marijuana and oxycodone and told, "Take these if you have to, but don't drink, or you will die." She was sober for about 3 months. She was calling about the wonders of sobriety and letting me know that her liver was actually coming back online. She stopped calling, and went back to drinking. Hospitalized on Dec. 20th. Her kidneys shut down on the 23rd. She passed on the 26th. We had her service on Jan. 5th.

Alcoholism kills people in many different ways. It is a fatal disease. A tragic reminder to where this disease will bring me if I don't practice a healthy program and remain a MIP------miracle in progress.

Amazing Grace.......the hymn has an interesting history indeed, thanks for bringing it into my being today!!

Ghostman1960........I think the day I made the decision to give my will over to God/my higher power and surrender to the idea that I was powerless over the effects of alcohol in me........I finally gave up being in charge of the mess that my life had become.

I stopped being the wretch--day by day--minute by minute.

The wretch is still inside of me.......just add alcohol---and that's where I'd go!!

Keep showing me the way Ghostman........I need it!! You are significant to me.
