When I went to the doctor yesterday blood was taken for....whatever they do to find out about your liver.
I swear I can feel my liver poking at me now...lol. Won't have the results until tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me more about the test? What exactly are they looking for in the blood? Is it something that would have been obvious other times I have had blood drawn?
Don't be nervous Christine, ... Last time I went to rehab, they did a blood test on me too, for the enzyme panel ... My Doctor, a recovering alky, said your liver has stopped functioning ... just about all your thingies are off the chart ... that's why you have this yellowish tint to your skin ... you're jaundice ...
With proper diet, and no cell killing alcohol, I was able to get full functioning of my liver back ... left untreated, meaning continued alcohol use, the liver turns to cirrhosis or whatever ... if that happens, I think that is irreversible ...
So, if you don't have a yellowish tint to your skin, you're probably in good to fair shape or will be with a good diet and maybe some extra vitamins ...
Chin up ... no big deal ... (in most cases)(oh, and it's great that you're having this looked at now ... very smart ...)

cirrhosis is scar tissue which renders that part of the liver useless. I wouldn't worry, the results will be back tomorrow. If your liver had problems you'd have symptoms like fatigue, stomach pain, headache, nausea... or turning yellow like Pappy did.
I'm from Canada .. I got into a accident but the cops didn't charge me for the DUI they where nice to me for some reason .. but the doctor didn't like that I got away with it and suspended my licence for medical reasons. So I have to disprove I don't have alcohol dependance.. its a very rare thing to happen.. plus it didn't help I was being a jackass to the doctor.

Now you've got my curiousity up ... just what kind of test do they purpose to give you to prove you're not alcohol dependent? ... (oh, if the original Doctor is involved, you might try being nice ... just sayin' ...)

no luckly my uncle is doing the tests hes a doctor :) .. but they are basically going to look at my levels, and then I had to do a survey ( which was pretty long and asked lots of questions like, how often do you think about alcohol ... blah blah blah) ..
I was told by the Emergancy services when I got into my accident to tell eveyone I didn't drink a drop and to tell everyone that they think my neck is broken. They told me to do this so if the cop decided to do a blood test .. it would have to be hours later after the alcohol was out of my system, after I left the hospital. They also asked me if there was any booze in the car and they threw it out for me.. The problem is I was so neverous to give blood I wouldn't let the doctors take blood so I kind of pissed him off and he knew I was drunk.. needless to say I never got charged with DUI , and my licences just says it is suspended for medical reasons which from an insurance stand point can mean alot of things. I think I had a horse shoe jammed up my ass.
This is perhaps a great lesson for you, considering the fact that no-one was seriously hurt ... looks like a good opportunity for you to do a little 'soul-searching' and really face the facts 'honestly' ... time to get honest with yourself, if not with everyone else ... only you can make the determination as to whether you control your intake of alcohol or it controls you ... either way, we are here to help you any way we can ...

Yeah I was really lucky ... my car was kind of screwed... at the time i was in a really dark place really depressed .. I was driving drinking a bottle of whiskey and I blacked out.. I had just broken up with my girlfriend of ten years so I was kind of in a dark place.
but now I think i have a really great life, I feel i'm conditioned to drink when I go out.. so I gotta go and not drink simple as that. Bottles of water when I go to the club . I apperciate everyones help, I know everyone has differn't battles.
Like I said, it may be a good time for a little 'soul-searching' ... sounds like you 'got-off' lite this time ... you haven't gotten 'close and personal' with the 'yets' yet ...

i feel i didn't have a choice. I need it back so I said what they wanted to hear. Plus my uncle did the survey so I had to said what he wanted to hear as well.. I've changed alot since the accident.
If you should discover you have trouble with alcohol, be sure to talk with us about it ... if it becomes a problem for you, we have the solution for such problems ... don't forget where to find us ... we're not going anywhere so keep coming back ...
you may think you've changed a lot since then, but only time will tell ... In our program, we learned to change too, cause our old way of doing things kept getting us in trouble AND making us miserable ... our changes made a big difference for us ... if your changes don't work out, come talk to us ...

Well if you get bailed out of a DUI and you don't change because you where let off easy, that just might be the horse shoe that got jammed. Don't get me wrong I wish the best for you, just hope you use this as a opportunity to change and not skate.
My last DUI was the best break I ever got. Just took a number of years to figure that out. One of the reasons I do like the book says and pray only for a knowledge of God's will and power to carry that out......I never really know what results are going to be the best.
Sorry to Hijack your Topic tread Christine

Test shows normal function! Kind of a down day. I needed that piece of good news. One thing I can get out of my head.
I read an article a couple years ago that asparagus is good for drinkers. I don't remember the science of it but thank goodness I love asparagus. Maybe it helped.
Upward is right. I don't have a shovel to get any further down.
Isn't it weird how you can think you have a handle on things and one little statement or thought can send you into a tailspin? I hope to be sober long enough to get past these mood swings and destructive thinking. It's absolutely paralyzing.

Wow do I ever hear you on that one. Even though I can sometimes recognize now that it's the disease talking it still throws me for a loop.
haha - Christine - I think it's a German thing because both my grandparents were from Germany and both will eat anything pickled too! My parents were really big into anything pickled too, and I kid you not, we had pickled eggs (with red wine to turn them pink) for Easter!!! LOL

Aaaaaah, ... pickled eggs & bologna are great ... only problem is is that I used to eat them with beer on the side and that gave me enough gas to get me to the moon and back ... LOL ... (we'd have to open the doors in the house no matter what the weather outside was like ....)

great morning topic after meditation..I had forgotten about the pickled eggs and the pigs feet! There was just something about that white fat on the feet that said "no thank you" lol
But the meat between the toes, uh, I mean hoofs, was quite tasty ... WELL, when I was drunk, they were ... HeeHee ...
Ya know? ... it took me forever to figure out that the hair stuck in my teeth the next morning was hair from the pigs foot and not from, uh ... ... ... damn, I can't say that ... well, ya'll just have to use your imagination .... it was always hard to piece together the events of the previous night ...
God it's great to be sober ... I'll pass on creating new memories like the ones that just popped into my head ... LOL

At the dive bars in Ohio a lot of places had this pickled pigs feet. I've never seen them down South, but I don't go to dive bars down here either :)

The test said my liver wouldn't be pickled enough for you to eat Pappy so it's all good!
I remember pickled cow toungue too. I'm telling you my hillbilly family would eat ANYTHING pickled!
Hey, Hey ... I resemble that remark!!! ... ... ... I are a hillbilly from the hills of Tennessee ... home of country music and 'Sadie Hawkins Day' ... we raised and butchered our own meat (cows, pigs, & chickens) and rasied three acres of garden, which I had to hoe, for canning wegetables for the year ... we did not have electric heat until I turned 16 ... had to cut 12 to 14 cords of firewood every season ... (without a 'log-splitter' ... just sledge hammer and wedges and axes ...)
No ... ... ... I'm not Amish ... Red Neck?, maybe a little ...

Pickled what?!?! I have no idea what your all talking about, and I'm cool with that:) congrats on the clean bill of health! I'm gonna go eat some granola now
Haha, this reminds me of when I lived in New Orleans.. Best food I've ever had. There was a great little soul food place around the corner from us ( I lived there with my ex-boyfriend, who's also from Boston). They kept trying to persuade us of the joys of chitlins ( I don't think thats spelled correctly) but we were NOT having it. I think he eventually fell for it and tried them, but I just couldn't do it.
Oh boy, New Orleans ... home of probably THE best food in the country ...
spelling it chitlins is close enough ... they are great if properly prepared and cooked .... uh, ... ... ... let me rephrase, if they are properly 'cleaned', prepared and cooked ... if you don't know where they come from or just what they are, it's probably for the best ... and for God's sake don't look it up ... we always liked them fried up and put into the 'cornbread' mix ... made for some dynamite cornbread ... especially if you chop up a half of jalapeno pepper and add to the mix ...
