Hello Col, ...

Does the word 'serenity' have a meaning for you ??? ... perhaps this extra 'time' you have is a way of slowing down to actually have time to enjoy life ... no more rushing to the next activity or drink ... as they say, stop and smell the roses ... you know, before you're pushing them up from underneath ... LOL

I will have to admit, I went through a similar period in early recovery ... I asked someone at a meeting what is it when you have run out of things to 'catch up' on ... they said it's mostly the 'serenity' you've been looking for ... if you've never had it before, it can feel strange and uncomfortable to start with ... then it 'dawns' on you and you think ... Aaaaaah!

Although I've been sober for 7 months, I haven't really been doing much aside from working and meetings. Well, now that my full-time job is gone I have a lot of free time. I'm not all that great with unstructured time- I find that I get a lot more done with a rigid schedule. Now what do I do? It's sounds pretty pathetic, but I know I'm not the only one who's entire life revolved around drinking. With all this free time I've been reflecting a lot, which is great.. But, man I'm getting antsy. It's like I'm overwhelmed with possibilities. Prior to getting sober, I drank and worked. That's it. Now, I can read, see a movie, go for a walk, do yoga... But I find I'm doing a whole lot of nothing. I dunno if I'm scared of the world, or what- but I feel like its overwhelming haha. I know- we should all have the 'problem' of too much time, but I'm really not used to it! I'm being reintroduced to the world I've existed in for 36 years. It also makes me realize just how small MY world had gotten while drinking.

When they took my bottle away 39 years ago next week..I first started reading comic books and listening to classical music..actually I was de-toxing...but THROUGH THE STEPS and its application..my world broadened considerably... first by getting well physically..which was really recovering spiritually..visit my Face book page that I put up a few weeks ago called TomasSailor..a lot of pretty tropical pictures with a few things I'm working on here in Samoa..I hope others will enjoy as well..and don't forget to have fun

Yeah, getting into recovery gave me my first "break" from my life as a Mother in 6 yrs. I didn't know what I liked anymore really. I didn't know who I was other than Mom. This whole year has been great not just in recovering, but in discovering who I am again. What I like. Actually for the first time ever really - because before I was round the clock mom, I was round the clock work a holic and alcoholic like you.

It does feel weird to be 34 and wondering what I want to be when I grow up. What I want to do. What my goals are. Where in this world I want to travel. But oh so refreshing too.

We should go to florida and see Dean since he's got the best weather by him ; )

I'm exactly the same way, more effective and efficient when super busy. When we used to have down time we knew what we had to do, have that drink, now we know we need to NOT have that drink, which leaves open alot of free time. My free time is now taking up with two things: when I want to be productive I find ways to simplify my life, which leads to some type of organization project, and when I want to be lay, I kick back with a good movie.

When they my bottle away, 24 years ago, I learned to plant grass, started on my hobbies which I had abandoned. For 24 months, I worked on a car project while "detoxing". For the 10 years that I drank alcohol, I stopped growing emotionally, spiritually and mentally. I had to relearn some stuff all over again.

Serenity?!? What's that? Oh, that thing I've been praying for every day? It's weird that when I do have those feelings of calmness and tranquility, that 'everything's ok at this moment:)' I then think 'oh crap, nothing's wrong.. That can't be right' hahaha it's a learning process for sure. I'm getting there

Oh PC.. Stop being a brat- we will visit you first and go see 'Les Miserables' again together and drink Fresca... Then we can all crash Deans place and go fishing or something manly:) Oh, and now we have Samoa in the mix! Never been. Tasha, should we be polite and wait for an invite? Nah

Hey, ... I wanta go ... ... I think I could learn to drink Fresca instead of Pepsi ... ... ... then after raiding PC's place, maybe we could hit Dean's, and talk him into teaching us to 'scuba dive'? ... ...

Maybe Tomas has lockjaw (frozen keyboard) or a overbearing wife ;).  Can't be too many people named Tomas at the meetings there,  probably best just to crash in.

The sailboat looks like fun.
