The Little woman did it to me again this Year

Last nites meeting went pretty much as usual ... discussion leader read from the 24 Hour book and our meeting topic was in place ... the sharing took a few turns and we wound up discussing Christmas's past ... we had some pretty horrid stories of 'what it was like' ... and a few of 'what it's like now' ... turned out to be a great meeting ...

When I shared, I said that my wife and I started playing the same game we always do ... 'what do you want for Christmas? ... I don't know, I got all want or need, what do you want?' ... she told me that the best present she ever got was the first year I was sober for Christmas ... and that the best present I could give her would be a sober husband for Christmas again ... I mean, how do you respond to that ??? ... okay, I admit it, I got a little choked up but managed to squeak out an 'I love you' before I could get out of the room ...

Okay you women out there ... I just want to say, if you don't make it clear to us men exactly what it is you'd like to have, then you'll suffer the consequences ... that's how women wind up with new vacuum cleaners, or a new frying pan, or a new pair of slippers, or a new electric toothbrush, or some clothes that don't fit, or a new weedeater. etc. ... ... ... you gots to be specific .... including sizes if necessary ... we certainly aren't going to say anything if you've gained a couple of pounds and we certainly will make the wrong choice in sizes if left to our own guesses ...

For a man to come up with something "thoughtful" is damn near impossible ... we need help ... so be careful what you wish for, you just might not get it ...

Happy Holidays,

Pappy

Ahhh, you men.. So simple. How about something involving being pampered (think day at spa, mani/ pedi)? Something really girly and totally not needed? Jewelry.. But please let another woman pick it out. Realize that we ladies will never understand why you can't read our 'signals' lol. I think being a sober husband is the best, best gift for sure... But a gift certificate to the salon or spa couldn't hurt:)

Great idea Col, ... ... ... I did do that one year and it went over pretty good ... the problem is my wife works so much, she really had a difficult time finding time to do the spa thingy ... cause I set her up with several 'one hour' visits ... well, you'd have to know my wife too ... and I may be one of the luckiest men on earth ... she really doesn't care for jewelry ...

Give me a break, we've been married 39 years, what's left ???

LOL! She must really be enjoying holidays with her sober hubby. Might I recommend diamonds? Some comfy slippers, perhaps? Or maybe just some romantic gift that reminds her and you of how you met and all the things you love about her. If you really want such a gift to go over big, tell her of all the things that you meant for it to represent. Sweet sentiments go a long way.

I wouldn't mind that either, the pampering I mean (no comments Roger). That may be on my list next year.

I dunno, pappy.. I think that's one of those images that may be burnt into your psyche forever.

Don't say that!!! ... I finally got my thinking on my chores and return here to, what, be reminded of this 'image' again ... ???

Col, you know I'm like a kid, I have to do want Mom told me 'not to do' ... why is that? ... and about those 'images'? ... just the mere thought of being 'burned into my brain' give those stupid images power ... oh no, I'm doomed to think of Mr David now for a long time ... I need 'pity' someone ... Hey, who's got some pity for me?

This reminds me of when I was about 5 y/o ... I was sitting on our 'hard wood' floor with a bottle of bubble making stuff ... I was blowing bubbles and suddenly I tipped over the bottle ... My Mom, in a very sarcastic tone of voice, said:  'Why don't you just go ahead and pour the rest of it out?' ... and I usually did what Mama told me, I picked up the bottle and poured the rest of it on the floor ... ... ... Mom told me years later that she couldn't get mad at me for doing what she suggested, and that it was even harder to get mad while laughing her 'rear-end' off ...

So be careful of your suggestions people, they just might work ... LOL  (especially on us kids)

Hey Ruby T, ...

BB pg. 132 ... ... ... We have been dealing with alcohol in its worst aspect. But we arent a glum lot. If newcomers could see no joy or fun in our existence, they wouldnt want it. We absolutely insist on enjoying life.

Just so ya know there is life without alcohol AND it can be fun!!!
