I have already received three bottles of wine as gifts. Gotta laugh. They are in my husband's wardrobe until such time that we have occasion to bring them somewhere as a gift or something. Sigh.

Hey Ruby T, ...

I know the wine was given with all good intentions ... however, you are at the stage in my recovery that this would be a great temptation during a weak moment that is sure to come ... I'm not sure about you, but I would feel more comfortable of getting those out of the house ASAP ... well, for me, I didn't develop the ability to repel the alcohol so easily until a year or more of sobriety ... It wouldn't bother me now, but I'm just sayin' ... early on, my thinking had not yet come to the point that I could ignore it's being that close by ...

You're right Pappy, I just don't really know what to do with it.

Of course talk to your husband and explain your feelings and the temptation those bottles represent ... ask him if he has friends that may enjoy them or if you have friends at work or at other community groups you belong to, then give them away to someone ... Preferably to someone who isn't an alcoholic ... LOL

You may do okay with them being there ... I'm just saying I didn't gain the strength to leave them alone until at least a year in the program ... I craved alcoholic so bad that I even drank mouthwash when I couldn't buy beer or vodka ... I was 'eat-up' with this disease ... but thanks to AA and people like you, I am recovering and am getting better every day ...

God Bless,
Pappy

I just got a bottle of champers and $50 from my boss as a Christmas bonus.

Mum will get the champers and the $50 will go on a nice meal sometime next week.

Last year it was a box of top shelf beer (the sort of stuff that I used to do anything for).

I gave 1/2 to dad and 1/2 to my granddad.

I can't put into words how nice it is to be able to hand it away without a regret or a backwards glance.

Would it be a greater waste to throw them out or to relapse?

Give it to the mailman....not worth the temptation to keep it around.

Personally, I needed to live in an alcohol free home for a couple years. Now, my partner and I have liquor cabinet for parties but neither of us drink lol. We constantly regift alcohol.

Thanks, folks. I think it is safest to get it out ASAP. Why mess around? It's kind of handy to have wine to regift! I used to love getting wine as a gift (duh, right?).

There was a time when if I ran out of vodka or beer, I would raid the cupboard and drink the 'cooking wine' ... uuuuck ... wine really never really got me where i wanted fast enough ... Duh!!! ... glad I haven't done that in a long while ...

Good Luck RubyT

My imagination is having a hard time with this thread because I respect the disease as I would the King and because the "tiger inside" is pacing.  The "tiger" has been asleep for a long time and woke up on the word wine...gift...beer...gift...given in love and respect so not threatening.  Oh Geeeez.  I remember a love affair with 1976 Mirasou Chenin Blanc an award winning year and blend and that eventually I was told that "We have no more.  You have bought up our stock".  I would go 50 miles one way if I knew there was a bottle to be had and I did all the time.  My feeling now is like a withdrawal...psychological, emotional with physical reaction.  When I got the news that they had no more in stock and found out that no one else did it was suggested that I substitue Blue Nun or Rhineskeller and neither would do so I got pissed and went back to Tangueray...How do you connect up such a mix except to say "fickle alcoholic"  LOL I've really no saving graces as an alcoholic...non at all not even strong memories of past affairs.

Gratitude always.   smile

Only three? I usually got 8 -10 every year. I used to bring mine to holiday parties, as a gift. It's better that way.
