Growing up was really hard for me. My father passed away when I was just 13, and my mother also abused drugs and alcohol as well. I remember as a child everything felt normal. After my knowledge of the thing's I know now, I have certaintly been questioning my whole life.
For my senior project I have choosen the topic ''The Understanding of Drug Addicts.'' This project is very important to me and I was just wondering if anyone would voulenteer to be my mentor. I would just need information about alcohol and drug use. Nothing personal is asked of you, unless you would like to share.
The main question I have is, what makes a drug addict, a drug addict? I would also need a picture of you if you choose to be my mentor. I know it is a big request. Considering I don't know you and everything. For me this project is like getting to know my parents in a light I could never see them in as a child.
Hello Clara and welcome to the board. Not sure if you'll get pictures of anyone as this is an anonymous program. I think that you'll do better just asking questions in the form of a topic and you'll get some answers. This is an AA forum. We also have an NA forum for recovery from drugs that you can ask questions about drug addiction, although many here are dually addicted. Hope this helps.
You could also attend open NA AND AA meetings keeping in mind that Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions You can also GOOGLE AA,ORG AND NA .ORG AND READ THE PAMPHLETS,LITERAURE AND WRITINGS ABOUT WHO IS AN ADDICT/WHO IS AN ALCOHOLIC ETC....What makes us different from others is not what or how much we use but how we REACT to the substance.WE can not pick up the FIRST ONE...that ,based on the evidence,LEADS US to the long ride on the DOWNBOUND EXPRESS,most often leading to jails, instituitions, deriliction or death...Hope you find the info you need JUST DONT USE!!!!!

I agree Dean. I don't feel comfortable doing that, either.

Sorry but I have no idea what makes a drug addict. I don't know the first thing about it and I can't imagine what would draw people to that kind of life. I have heard a few share in meetings, but when they are talking about what it was like, they speak a language and use terms I just don't relate to. So sorry, not much help.
