I'm saddened by the news. The last time we talked -via PM, she sounded just fine. She was always giddy about her recovery, even at such a young age. I'll pray for her family and friends, that's the least I can do. R.I.P dear, we miss you very much.

Take Action guys. Action against this disease. For the lurkers out there, I hope you find a saving grace. Be it AA, NA, religion, anything that prevents you from spiralling down do the deepests depths this disease will take you- to the rock bottom. Alcoholism is a black hole, it sphegettifies (yes that's a scietific word) you, stretches you to your limits and destroys your entire being. Now, to those who have been here for a few months, RUHIG died last night. Of what? You might say, of alcoholism and drug addiction. Ruhig, also known as Alex, overdosed last night in her truck. We don't know if it was accidental or not, but she was found DEAD in her truck with several letters. Two personal letters to her parents and one to her sister, none of which implied that she was planning her demise. However, a bottle of prescription pills and three empty bottles of liquor were found in her truck. Ruhig and I met via this site. I had felt we had grown close. I have learned thru this experience that secrets do IN FACT keep us sick. RIP Ruhig 1990-2012

I am so sorry to hear such dreadful news. Alex was the same age as me when I got sober, just 22, what a waste of a life. It's a chilling reminder of what this disease can do, even accidentally. Even so, due to that strange mental blank spot, it is not a lesson I will remember if the obsession returns. As you suggest Neophite, the thing to do is take action TODAY, by taking the steps and or enlarging and perfecting our spiritual condition through self sacrifice and service to others. I feel sure the real Alex, the one we glimpsed, would wish that all who still suffer will take the action you suggest. And I am sorry you lost a friend.

God bless,
MikeH.

Thank you for sharing this very sad news with us so we can take this loss to our own hearts in our own ways. It is just another reminder that this disease does not discriminate and each day WE work our own process to ensure we stay recovered,a day at a time.I am sorry for the loss of your friend and also for one of our own....Just For Today I will continue to carry our message of Hope and our promise of freedom to the best of my ability, guided by a Power greater than me. I can only minister the word, show it by my actions and let God do the convicting...I will also lift you up in prayer....I wish you peace.......

She was wise in so many ways. An old, but pure soul in a tortured and addicted body. Now she can be part of the collective higher power that keeps us all sober....if we let it.

Thank you Neo for letting us know of Alex ... so many times we never know, not that knowing her fate makes it any easier ...
I think most of us will see this as a reminder of just how 'cunning, baffling, and powerful' this disease is ...

Alex and I had some great PM's ... mostly 'riddle' stuff ... but some other questions came from her regarding the depth of my
spiritual convictions ... she was truly searching for a 'presence' to have faith and believe in ... and she felt I had something of a
belief that she wanted to experience ... This is a difficult situation for me to cpntemplate ... I feel she was, at one point, starting
to let me in ... she had a 'devilish tease' about her, much like me ... I enjoyed her 'on-line' compamionship immensely ...

There but for the Grace of God, go I ... ... ... rest peacefully my friend Alex

Love Always,
Pappy

It's amazing that we alcoholics can believe that we've never offered anything to the world but disgusting behavior and dissappointment. While we have often presented these things, this just goes to show that even the most tortured have atleast given a gimpse of hope to one person or another.

I'm having a difficult time with this. Alex was available at all hours to me. She had her quarks, but Alex was determined to believe that there was more to recovery than putting down the drink. She showed me that this program shows who we really are, with out the shadow of addiction. She showed me recovery could be fun. These last few hours she showed me that no matter how we appear on the outside, we all still struggle inside.

Please, if not for yourself, then for your fellow recoverers, do everything you can to show the love and attention that you crave to another recovering addict/alcoholic. You have to give in order to recieve. And remember... YOUR WORTH IT. You're worth the effort it takes to get through your 4&5th steps. You're worth the love you will recieve and the friends you make in this program. Together we can keep each other alive.

Neophyte said "Together we can keep each other alive. "
Sadly, there are some of us, like Ruhig, who do not make it. Something very important that I have to remember, me being one who wants to save the world and everyone in it, (I've always been like that, even before recovery), is that in sobriety, we can carry the message, but we cannot carry the alcoholic or addict. My heart grieves for the pain that Ruhig felt. Hopefully now her HP has relieved her of that pain. We all mourn the loss of a beautiful young life, so senseless. We are left here to continue to try to lead by example, and to extend our hand to whomever needs it. And pray that they take it. If Alex was available at all hours to you, that means that you were available at all hours to her. I'm sure you gave her as much as she gave you. I'm not in your shoes, I don't feel your pain, but please, know that you did all you could Neo, to be there for her. To extend your hand. That's all any of us can do. The rest is in God's hands. Sometimes the outcome doesn't make sense to us, but that is where faith has to come in. Trust in the fact that you did what you could do. God needed her more than we did here on earth. ((((hugs))) and much love.
