Welcome to the board, CMG. This is a good place to start, reading the posts here that you may identify with. Right on top is a "letter to the woman alcoholic" you may want to read. Nobody here can say whether or not you have a problem with alcohol, although it sounds like you may.  If you feel you do  identify with someone here, please, look up the AA hotline in your area and speak to someone.  Reaching out in the confusion isn't easy, I surely know that, but you will be giving yourself a gift if you do so. When you're in this much pain, it certainly won't hurt you more to talk to another woman. I can tell you, it does not have to be this way. There is a better way for you. Fighting depression is so difficult, and alcohol in itself is a depressant, so it just doubles up on you. Please do call the hotline, and know that you are always welcome here to speak what's going on with you. As you can see, there are alot of us here, and we have all been in your shoes at some point.  Take care of yourself, and again, welcome to the board.

Chris

Welcome CMG.  Sounds like your body is physically dependent upon alcohol.  Alcohol dependency is what they told me when I had similiar reactions when not drinking.  The symptoms you describe are associated with withdrawals and detoxification.  Not sure from your post how bad they are, but sometimes people need to seek medical attention to detox safely.  I did, three times as a matter of fact.

If you're an Alcoholic, cutting back is not an option.  I would ask: have you try this already? Honestly?  If not, you can certainly try.  Might lead you to deciding if you're truly an alcoholic or not.  Alcoholism is a progressive diesase- at times it may look like we're managing well but soon we're woarse than ever.

I truly believe no one gets here by mistake.  Why not attend an AA meeting and see if you can identify with the speakers and from open discussion from others.  Try not to compare, but with an open mind see if you can identify and relate to what others are saying.

Please keep posting here.  We're here to help others.  smile

Welcome to MIP Carmen, ... ... ... If you 'think' you have a problem with alcohol, that usually means you do ... I used to get up and have one cup of coffee and get to shaking so bad I had to have a drink to settle down so I could go to work ... it got to the point one time, I'd have a beer 1st thing in the morning so I could 'thow-up' and get it over with ... then drink a 2nd to calm down ...

If your life is, or has, become centered around alcohol, then you're probably addicted to it ... meaning, if you think about that first drink after work so much you can't wait to get home or to the bar to get a drink ... If you stop drinking for a few days and all you think about is getting a nice glass of wine or a beer, you're probably 'hooked' ...

Perhaps the 'biggest' decision we make coming to AA is the 1st step ... Admitting we have a problem and that our lives have become unmanageable ... Once we cross that barrier, it's off to the recovery process ... Go to some AA meetings ASAP ... just sit and listen, you don't have to share if you don't want ... AA 'DOES' have the solution to a person's drinking problem ... and amazingly, most all other life problems start to dissappear as we work the program ...

Love Ya,

Pappy

Hi Carmen,

Welcome to MIP. It sounds you may be going through some withdrawl symptoms from alcohol. Detox from alcohol is nothing to play around with. It sounds like you must have a doctor since you have prescriptions, best to talk with them. Be honest with the Doc if you want to quit drinking and detox.

Every case can be different regarding detox, I don't think anyone here is qualified to give medical advise. We will be here for you in your road to recovery in support.

Rob

I was a BIG time wine drinker myself. Getting over it causes some discomfort, that's for sure, but hang in there. Find some meetings, do what they tell ya, and it really does get better. Welcome to the boards! :)

You mentioned that you take Cymbalta. Did you drink heavily before you started taking it? The reason I ask is that when I am on antidepressants, I crave alcohol. The urge is uncontrollable. It happened to me on Lexapro and Zoloft. If you google andtidepressants and alcohol cravings, you will see that there have been studies that link the two. Just a thought.
