So I used a paint called "Kilz" today.  It is a product I have used a lot in the past for tough stains and problematic priming.  It is a pigmented shellac that is realy STRONG smelling! The problem is that I needed to paint a bathroom.  The fumes were really powerful in the small space to the point where I was light headed and mentally, I was not with it.  I left the project to clear my mind and did not feel great, but it was an oppertunity for me to feel like I had a hangover again.  As bad as I felt, I was happy that it was a chance to remember why sobriety is great. The vapors passed quickly, and I got a lift from a bad experience.

(P.S. if the post does not make sense, it means I am still affected by the Kilz.)

Tom

I've used that stuff....It's good. I've had to cut way down on my painting. Not because of the fumes...Because I hate painting.

Yea, I had a similar experience the other day using some spray paint on my gas grill.

I have used Kilz in the past also. They have a latex version available now that has lower VOC levels than the oil based version, but I'm sure they both could knock you out.

Your post makes perfect sense, T.G. People sometimes get high off paint fumes. And I can now see why. Thanks for keeping us informed.

I am sick for the first time since coming into the program around Christmas, and it was bizarre to feel so drug down and crappy. But it occurred to me immediately that I dealt with this feeling almost every day, and I'm SOOOOOOO grateful I don't have to be constantly sick anymore!

Makes sense to me Tom.  I've used Kilz recently, fortunately with no side effects.  That I'm aware of anyway.  confuse  Nice to see it passed with gratitude.  smile

Hey Tom, ... ... ... Kiltz is great stuff ... I use it anywhere I have to repair water damaged or water stains on walls or ceilings ... My biggest problem though, is getting more of it on ME, than the ceiling ...

That is why I use an exhaust fan when I'm doing small areas.   The hangover effect just does me in.  I also will take breaks during the job all because I don't like the hangover affect.  Also used low VOC primer and paint on a kitchen remodel and what really happy with the recommendation...never had to stop and was clear headed all the time.  Still susceptible and program smarter.   smile
