PREPARED sign-in sheets - break in anonymity?

AA meetings?

Full names?

Where are the meetings held?

Who collects the list?

Open or closed meetings?

I'm with 'pinkchip' here ... ... ... Where I am, each group keeps a list of it's members who have decided this is their "HOME" group ... and like 'pink' said, it's sometimes used to give to new comers as a phone list to call from ... But we mostly just pass a "New-Comers" packet around for current members to sign their first name and phone number on ... A packet that includes some AA literature and of course a list of local AA groups and meeting times ... Men sign it for a new guy ... and women sign it for new gals ...

Attendance 'check-off' ??? ... I've never seen that before and can't figure why that would be necessary ... other than perhaps calling members than haven't shown up for a long time, just to see what's up with them and whether they need help or not ... (I've known some churches that do that)

God Bless,

Pappy

P.S.    Sorry,  ...  Welcome to MIP leh ... stick around and enjoy the fellowship ...

Recently I've been attending meetings where there are pre-prepared sign-in sheets with everyone's information (who usually attends?) that is passed around, so that people can just check off that they were there that day.  Typically, so that this list doesn't have to be printed every week, it looks more like an attendance card, with columns for several weeks on the same page.  There are also phone lists updated monthly.

My question is:  Is the sign-in sheet/attendance record breaking anonymity?  It seems to me that I heard that once and would like to bring it up to the meeting, but don't remember the "arguments" to support it, so until I know them, I'll just stay silent on the subject.  (From what I remember, it is mostly for the newcomer, who is terrified to be there in the first place and to whom anonymity is of a more critical nature than us "oldtimers."

Any thoughts?

Libbie

California

Phone list person collects them and then every once in a while makes up a new Phone List of Active Members.

I've seen them at both open and closed meetings.

As long as it's optional to participate... Some want to be mire accessable than others. California pretty liberal in all their affairs. I'd still bring it up in a small group... Like group conscious?

In the meetings I have been to, phone lists with first name and first letter of last name are used frequently. Those are for newcomers and people new to the area. Newcomers are encouraged to use the phone list. Attendance sheets.....I cannot see a need for that. Only if it were in a jail setting or institution where they need to track where the members are or if they are complying.

Court ordered folks come with their own attendence sheets, but that's different. It's only for the chair to sign that they were there.

I agree. It should be for court purposes, only. Not mandatory for A.A. either
