I'm not abnormal?

On my way home from work today, I stopped by the 7-11. There was a boy who pulled up as I was leaving and he called my name. We did the usual catch up thing... New tatoo? How's your band? College? Parents? Significant others? And he asks my number and says we should hang out some time. Ok, sure. So he asks... Do you drink? And I just said no. I didn't give a shameful look or mutter the word and it sort of came naturally. And you know what? He didn't even skip a beat. Ok he said... Maybe star bucks or something. It didn't even phase him. He didn't ask anything or look at me strange. And here I thought every one was drinking. Apparently my life can be "normal" and fun with out drinking. Thank god lol

Not drinking is pretty normal in the U.S. One third of the adult population does not drink at all. Zip. That's around 70 million people who don't drink.

Its so strange that when you're drinking, you think everyone else does (you probably surround yourself with drinkers). Once you stop, you realize how many people go about their daily lives without drinking. Without even Thinking about it!! I think it's very cool of your friend to ask if you drank or not btw.

I think it's because recently we've had several kids from our grad year die of over doses. I graduated with a little over 1000 kids, but to personally know six of them who've over dosed... I guess it just stuck in his brain differently. Either way, i'm glad he asked and that he's cool if we just don't.

Thanks Neo,

Some good points. The fact is, drinking really isn't that important to most people..

Here is some actual factual information on that since it would appear the above statistic comes from nowhere specific. Google is also accessible to others who want to snipe people's posts, quote them, and argue for no apparent purpose.

Question: How Many People Drink Alcohol in the U.S.?

Answer: More than half of all Americans aged 12 or older report that they are current drinkers. In the latest national survey, 51.9% of those surveyed said they were current drinkers, or an estimate 130.6 million people.
This information is from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), an annual interview of approximately 67,500 people, asking about their alcohol and drug use in the past year.

I only have 2 friends that drink but we've never drank together and I've never had "drinking buddies" and never really "drank socially". I turned to alcohol out of desperation to find something to numb myself from the pain, anxiety and depression I was having. It was either find some sort of numbing thing... or I probably would have done something more drastic.

Except then that solution became a problem of it's own...

But anyway, yeah... most of my friends just don't like the idea of altering their state of mind, nor do they like the taste of alcohol (can't blame them on the taste! I hate it too!!) so they see no reason to have even a little.
