I have been sober 1 day now.  Drunk for the last 5 years.   I had a drink yesterday morning in fact, blew off work to do it.

Got the greatest wife and family in the world.    After unreasonably getting angry at her for stupid crap, I am finally realizing that I as much as I've fought it, I am powerless over alcohol.   I realized I need help.   Went to my first AA meeting last night and said it for the first time.   I am an Alcoholic.

Going to start working the program and my 12 steps.   Life without drinking is going to be tough, but I gotta think worth it.   Can't be worse.

Looking forward to reading your stories and learning a thing or two.

Life without drinking is tough for a little while - but then it's just life. Life is not tied to drinking. Life happens anyhow. After a while, in sobriety, you will notice you are far better at dealing with life when you take out the maladaptive drinking response to stress. For us, drinking is not a stress reliever - it's a problem creator. So glad you are here with us! Welcome and keep us updated!

Hi McBiker, glad you are here, pull up a chair and check out the topics.  ask questions anytime.  we are here for you, we got help when we needed it and we will help you, too.  the only thing AA says to belong is "have a desire to stop drinking."   sounds like you are already one of us.  keep coming back and keep going to meetings, it really helps.    jj/sheila

Go to as many meetings as you can. The people there will show you it is indeed possible to live, and to live well, without alcohol. You don't ever have to drink again. Welcome to MIP. :)

As Pinkchip said: tough at first and then better than you could have imagined. Those happy, content people you'll meet time and time again in AA are not there by accident.

Welcome.

In the long run life without drinking is WAY easier for me than it was being drunk. Welcome to the board.
