Funny stuff!  I never got to the "hiding phase" of my addiction.  I'll never forget a little girl behind me at a liquor store in Newport Beach, California, back in 1979 when I was seeking my fortune and fame.  Apparently, she'd seen me in the same line the day before and the day before that and... She said, to her mom next to her, "He's an alcoholic."

I wish I had the "cat thing" back then; I could have delayed my sobriety by...oh...10 years?  Thing is, I'd still have to rotate my liquor stores so the astute "little girls of the world" wouldn't "OUT ME".

My boooze d'jure back then was white wine in half gallons.  Whatever was in that stuff, I'd get the shakes in the morning.

Is it my imagination or do alcs make white wine there last stop?  "Oh, I just have a little white wine now and then."  Mostly...now.  "Naw, I'm no alc; I just have this one drink a day...in a brandy snifter the size of a 55 gallon drum."  We alcs are a wiley bunch, eh?

I've always tried to figure out how this works. My brother drinks daily, so did I, what's the difference? He could say no if he was offered a drink and not be bothered by it as to where I HAD to have it.

White wine memories...LOL.  I wasn't a real wine/whine drinker but got introduced to a 1976 Mirrasou Chenin Blanc which had a 5 start ranking out of Berkley U.  We went to dinner and ordered the wine.  I fell in love with it and didn't loose my love affair with the hardstuff.  Anywho where ever I went in Central Valley I checked the vendors to see if they had this 1976 Chenin Blanc and if they did I bought it.  My local vendor and I got to be real close because of it and then one night I went in with a friend after we ran out at our house dinner and looked high and low for it.  Couldn't find and ounce of it or any amount so I went to the counter to ask if they had any in the stock room and the guy tells me "are you kidding?  you bought us out of it and there isn't any more".  I switched to  "whine" for a couple minutes and he suggested Blue Nun or a Zinfandel.  Both didn't measure up so I put it all in my memory book and increased my intake of Pinch...Canadian Mist...Black Velvet...Okay gotta stop there I'm beginning to spin.  Socially what?    LOL  smile

That is too funny. I remember sitting in my living room one day. I used to collect vinyl - we didn't have mp3 and terrabyte drives back then - and I noticed that some of the albums were out a few inches in one of the crates I stored them in. Sure enough, there were 2 pints of southern comfort right behind my lynyrd skynyrd . I don't remember stashing it there. As I now recall, I used to stash my drinking money in the albums too, so my wife wouldn't find it. Wish I had remembered that before I sold them all at a yard sale. some lucky SOB is probably still singing my praises. Anyway, thanks for the chuckle.
