That's so true Marc. One of my favorite quotes comes from Matthew 7:12 of the Bible: "Do unto others as you would have done to you". This verse reminds me of a greater purpose beyond our own and for me it all starts with service. I view sobriety today in the same context as your message, and do so with the same servant spirit listed above. Basically, I try to give back a portion of this program to the next deserving alcoholic. And I hope others will do likewise.

I don't know where this is from but it's something like:
Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery But today, lived well, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Then there is the part of the St Francis prayer that springs to mind when I hear the words "its a selfish programme" Maybe someone can complete the line?
Good topic to bring up Marc, a few quotes come to mind.
Can't do much better than the man who had a huge focus on service, from Dr. Bob's nightmire:
I spend a great deal of time passing on what I learned to others who want and need it badly. I do it for four reasons:
Sense of duty.
It is a pleasure.
Because in so doing I am paying my debt to the man who took time to pass it on to me.
Because every time I do it I take out a little more insurance for myself against a possible slip.
Another Great one:
The Responsibility Declaration: "I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible."
This goes hand in hand with the Fifth Tradition. The long form says "Each Alcoholics Anonymous group ought to be a spiritual entity having but one primary purposethat of carrying its message to the alcoholic who still suffers."
I think this might be a local Ohio AA saying(?)...I really like it.
"If I can help you I will, If I can hurt you I won't"

'It's by self forgetting......
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
So true....
