It generally is a good idea to stick with the same sex. There will be times when you need to discuss the private side of your life, and some of the times will be about what's happening in the bedroom (a total inventory) lol. Most alcoholic men that I know can't handle such conversations without getting nosey and getting some selfish intentions, it's not our fault lol, we were born that way. It could hurt you more than help you Tasha. There's nothing wrong with having some strong male friends in your life that you can talk to about things, but try and stay with a Woman for a sponsor..

I could really use some extra support. No 13th steppers please. I am married. I don't care if you're male or female, but know that my goal is to keep my family sound.
I don't see a problem with an online sponsor. When I saw your question I thought of a section of AA, called Loners I think which caters for folks who can't get to meetings for one reason or another. One of my sponsees lives and works in an isolated area, actually in a wilderness hotel, and he has found great support through one on one email sharing through loners, and has made new friends all over the world. Perhaps someone else on this site will have more info on Loners. As regards boys and girls, sponsorship is a pretty intimate thing and it may be wise to consider how your other half might feel about a boy sponsor.
There are a lot of sober women on this site who could sponsor you, Tasha. I usually recommend a face to face sponsor, but if you can't then that's okay. You can then choose someone here instead who matches your criteria. Some lucky lady would enjoy the company, for sure. I hope this helps.
