Hi Melissa, welcome to the board. Congrats for making a decision to quit drinking and do something about your problem. Most of us tried to quit drinking many times on our own and we went back to drinking sooner or later, but usually within weeks/months and always to worse drinking/consequences. We found that this disease was too tough to fight on our own. Alcoholism will, eventually ,  take everything from the alcoholic, and sadly, it's not until after many loses (job, family, friends...) that the alcoholic is generally  willing to do whatever it takes to get and stay sober. Reaching out for help, before losing everything is a wise choice, but one will have to focus strongly on recovery and make it a high priority. I highly recommend that you call the local AA phone number for your area and speak to one of us recovering members to get some guidance on where and when to attend some meetings to learn what you're up against. Good luck.

Hi, My name is Melissa. I joined 3 days ago and have just been lurking. I have been with my husband for 23 years, we have 2 beautiful girls. I started drinking beer about 6 years ago. It then progressed to tequila and wine and a few other things. My mom passed away about a year and a half ago and I have been drinking heavy every day since! I was sneaking tequila daily, and drinking beer and wine daily. I have rock bottomed several times but last weekend was the last straw! I went to the Dr. to get some help so today is day 4! I am just taking it one day at a time! The weekends are the hardest because I am used to partying till I blackout! So far so good! getting ready to got to work and hoping to go for a long walk after work so I'm not sitting here wanting to get drunk! Well, that's the short story! Just wanted to introduce myself!

Have a blessed day!!!

Hi Melissa, Welcome to the forum. Grab a seat and a cup of coffee, do some reading in the threads or search some topics, chances are you'll find an answer to your questions.

Hi Mellisa, I'm pretty newly sober too. This is a great start, but try and get to an AA meeting. Even if you're so ashamed you can't tell people your real name (like me), or can't do anything but cry, when people ask you your name (like me), or do anything at all but sit and listen, and try to see past the rituals that are a little overwhelming at first. You'll get used to all that, just take from it what you can, and what's good. Soon you'll see it all is. Take care, IM if you'd like.

Meeting number 2 will be so much better : )

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! It means a lot to know that there is so much support out there besides my family and friends!
