Got a few days off.

Got a few days off work. Today was day one, so me and a friend went to a bootmaker in North Yorkshire to buy a pair of hiking boots each. 10 years ago i bought a pair of Hogg All Weather motorcycle boots and mentioned to the bootmaker that they seem to have got a bit tight. The bootmaker explained that over time feet get bigger and so the shoes or boots may feel tight. So they offered to stretch them out by half a size if I drop them in all free of charge (see www.altberg.co.uk - I think) Best bootmakers.............................................................................in the world.

So a nice day today and plan for tomorrow is clean up my pigsty of a house (well it ain't that bad, but y'know, I want to clean it up.)

I'll plan on a long walk on saturday, dinner with a buddy Sunday, another walk on each of Monday and Tuesday. I also plan on getting in training for a long distance walking holiday this year.

So what's this got to do with alcoholism and recovery?

Everything. If I were still drinking I wouldn't even be thinking about this. And now? I'm not even thinking about drinking. It's just not on the horizon. It's not for me.

Enjoy the day, my friend. And the new boots. Thanks, again, for the gratitude.

Sounds like you had a nice day off. I'm not thinking about drinking either, but I did start thinking about the "over time feet get bigger comment". I still wear the same size 8.5 that I wore since high school.

Maybe the the shoe industry has adjusted the size 8.5 over the years to match my ever growing feet?confuse

Anyway, glad to be sober tonight,  and happy that I will wake up tommorrow knowing what I did.

Hey BB!
I think that when we were drunk, we did not appreciate the beauty of keeping a loved pair of boots around a bit longer or of the walks we took in those boots.

Enjoy the break my friend. It's nice to indulge ourselves occasionally.

Have a nice time off Bill. BTW, that bootmaker looks wonderful. What a reputation they have.

Marc - I very rarely recommend products and services, but Alt Berg are the absolute top of the list. I figure if the Paras, the Marines and the UK Special Forces choose to spend their own money on Alt Berg boots, they gotta be the best. As for outdoor wear, I also highly recommend Rohan. Their stuff costs a fortune, roughly twice what Berghaus costs, but their clothing is the best quality ever. Everything you need and nothing you don't.
