Gratitude List (PLEASE ADD ITEMS)

Dear Family. I just wanted to remind myself how grateful I am for the blessings. I thought I could start the list and anyone who wants can add as we approach the holidays and the New Year. For starters I am grateful for: My children.

lungs, drawing air, food to eat, a place to sleep, work to earn money to take care of my family and a way to get there. Thanks for my health and the health of my family. Thanks for another great year of sobriety and all the folks that contribute to that. thanks for friends and family to love and be loved.

I'm simply grateful that I have a lot to be grateful for today.  To itemize the long list would still fall short of describing the essense of gratitude that I feel inside.

Even on my worse days, when all hell is broke loose, when nothing is going right, when the world feels like it is turning faster than I can run and keep up with it...

I am still grateful...

That my little rat, "House" is still alive. He is really old, frail, and I think he may be going blind. He is losing his fur and stumbles around and his eyes are swollen and red. He is ancient in rat years and I know his time is coming soon. He lives with my buddy Mark (long story) and I visited him today, hugged him, kissed him. Feel sad though. It's so true that we don't really feel or think about what we HAVE till we lose it. I try to think about what I have now all the time, but it still doesn't hit emotionally until it's gone or almost gone.

I am thankful for my birds, Mark for trying yet again to stop drinking and smoking (we'll see if he wants to or if it is just because he is broke right now), and relative peace.

I had a snake. 4' red-tailed boa. I went to feed it a medium rat and the rat won. One-two punch to the face. Cliffy wouldn't go near rats for another six months. I almost went broke on gerbils. Anyway, I figured it was gladiator rules; the rat desreved a life. So then I had a pet rat. Named him Nibbles. He got old. Got tumors in his legs. Couldn't walk. Squealed in pain a lot. I put him down in an open field. One minute he was experiencing freedom and the next...afterlife. I wish you the best, Lex.

I am grateful for my God's Love, Life and Forgiveness. All things that only my God can provide.
I'm also grateful for maple-cured thick slab bacon, venison ham, living in a state with no closed fishing seasons, Little Debbie's Swiss Rolls and every day that I beat the odds and stay a sober alcoholic.
Oh yeah, and Chocolate Yoo Hoo.
And COFFEE!!!!!

Keep It Simple,
Rob

One of my favorite sobriety practices is keeping a notebook by my bed, where every night I write 5 things I was grateful for that day.

I am grateful this morning for this forum. I have come to really enjoy reading the posts as part of my morning routine.
Good idea GG on the notebook. I just might try that, it would be a good way to practise for writing a journal, one of the suggested recovery tools that I didn't pick up

For the ability to show gratitude. Today I paticipated in and contributed to the world in which I live. Tonight I will go to my home group and see if I can help someone, or wash the dishes. To me gratitude is an action rather than a feeling.

God bless,
Mike H.

I am grateful for sleep, deep, healing sleep. I feel protected by angels and so very warm and comforted after a good night's rest. It's very different from passing out each night only to escape to fitful slumber that left me as tired the next morning as I was the night before.

I am grateful for my disease, it has given me treasures I would have never known or appreciated. I lost everything while drinking and the one thing sobriety gave back that is more important than anything is a group of drunks like you!! Together we stay sober, alone we drink.

Thank you for this forum..

This morning I am grateful that I had a lousy nights sleep or should I say lack of sleep.
Without that I would not be able to be grateful for the awareness that not once thru the long night did I wish that I had a beer to help me sleep. That was one of my frequent justifactions for drinking not just before bed but all thru the night.
