confuseHi

Went out with some friends after an event--yes, to an family style pub--had a Dr Pepper with a Fuzzy Toothpick so would know the differenece.

But somehow in the course of 3 hours, not knowing it until after tasting it, ended up with a mixed drink of some sort, did not have the whole drink of course.

Since it was a mix-up and I realized it right away--it should not count against me in anyway should it?  Either as a slip or a relapse right.hmmevileye

A had a similar experience at my first sober Christmas Dinner. I was telling a joke and at the end I picked up the wrong glass and took a drink. I was both horrifed and shocked the second I realised what had happened. I immediately drank a pint or so of water and sat nervously waiting to see if the craving would start again. It didn't, and my sponsor told me the same thing as PhilipD above. It was scary, and a good reminder to be careful about what I drink in social settings, but otherwise there were no consequences.

God bless,
Mike H.

I was always told if your intention was not to drink alcohol and you stopped after you realized, then no foul.

I had a similar experience at a couple years sober, I think it was God's way of telling me to be very careful.

I went to shoot some pool with the guys from work, after work cause I felt I should be social with them. It was loud and I shouted for a "plain tonic with lime" in the waitresses ear. She brought a Gin and tonic, I took a sip....it was crazy, in a matter of seconds I felt my whole insides warm up, the insane thought of just finishing the one drink ran through my head in a instant, in the next few seconds I came back to my senses and returned the drink for what I asked for.

Got to be really careful in those settings. Today I don't care about standing out cause I'm drinking water out of a different type cup. I just drink my ice-water with no trimmings, safer, cheaper and more healthy than the other junk.

Happened to me one time, Travelling on the train, (1st class for a change!) and the waiter plonked a glass of OJ down with my breakfast. A big gulp later and I thought WTF? the OJ is pretty acidic - so I asked the waiter to change it. Turns out it was OJ and Champagne (at 0745 am!). Messed wi my head but my sponsor told me it wasn't ordered, wasn't totally consumed after the first gulp, it was an accident -then he said, BE MORE CAREFUL! If you don't actually see it poured out in front of you, then ask what's in it.
That afternoon, I was at a team building event and at 4pm, they came round with Tom Collins, only I didn't know what a TC was.
So here's this waitress putting a tall glass of something with fruit and leaves and sorta pinky red coloured in front of me. What's this i ask - it's a Tom Collins - what's a Tom Collins? - well it's a drink she said, yes, but does it have alcohol in it says I - well yeah she said - so I asked her to take it away and get me a glass of water, with Ice, slices of lemon and lime, which she did.

Now without the experience of the Bucks Fizz (OJ and Champagne) at silly o'clock in the morning, the conversation wi sponsor, I might not have been prepared for the TC in the afternoon. Everything happens for a reason!

I had a customer, who's home I was working in, tell us to help ourselves to the sodas in the fridge. I opted for a diet pepsi. I was thirsty and opend the plastic bottle cap quickly and began to drink. Just as the thought of "the seal was broken on the cap" I swallowed some rum and pepsi (and spit the rest of it out), that apparently his girl friend had mixed in the bottle. A range of emotions followed and I was baffled that it took 20 years to happen. Now I'm only accepting water from my customers lol.

IT IS SHOCKING WHEN IT HAPPENS. I HAD THE GREAT "AUTHENTIC TIRIMISU" ADVENTURE. IT IS AN AWESOME DESERT CAKE----BUT AS IT TURNS OUT, IT'S VIRTUALLY SOAKED IN RUM OR SOMETHING, ALONG WITH EXPRESSO AND COCOA AND LADYFINGERS & WHATEVER ELSE DELICIOUS IT'S MADE OF! OH WELL, ONE BITE WILL HAVE TO LAST A LIFETIME LOL

I did the same thing as most of us:

Christmas evening at home, I had a diet coke, my sister had a (some kind of booze or other, I forget). I kept pretty close track of my drink and moved it when I moved.

She was helpful (or not. Sometimes I wonder about her) and moved it for me when I wasn't paying attention.

I picked up the drink that was it the last location I put MY drink. Now, however it had been switched to the booze drink. I picked it up and took a drink.

The minute that drink hit my taste buds I knew it was spiked.

My eyes got huge - ohsnapohsnapohsnap

I ran to the kitchen sink, spewed it out and rinsed my mouth out with water.

Subsequent talks with sponsor involved these questions:

Did you "accidently" make this happen?
Once you realized it was alcohol did you.....
Swallow it?
Take another drink?
Test it to "make sure"?
Finish the glass?
Have another?

NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO

OK then, watch your drink (and maybe that sister)

The significant thing here is I didn't make the decision to drink and treated what was truely an accidental event like I would drinking any other poision.

I didn't crave alcohol, didn't go on a bender.
Did get a huge scare.

You didn't throw away anything Karen...so no need to start over.  It happened accidentally like you said... now it's time to move on. So, do just that...move forward.

ahahahaha - Leeu - authentic Tiramisu doesn't have ANY alcohol in it, it's really a children's pudding made from left over sponge cake, coffee and that sweet, soft, italian cheese (Ricotta?). But then the grown ups got hold of it, soused the sponge in amaretto and there we have the boozy tiramisu - same as what happened to the original trifle when the grown ups got hold of it and started putting sherry in it.
