This will be my first time posting on these forums. I am in recovery myself, sober for 3 years and 356 days now. What brings me to join a forum such as this one are several different things. 1) I am a full-time student and time is hard to come by,2) I live in a small town and good meetings are even harder to come by, and 3) I am looking for others who have expressed their emotions in similar ways as I have.
I am currently apart of a tattoo & expressions studies course and basically what I am looking for are others who have gotten tattoos, or other sorts of modification, to express their strength for maintaning sobriety or reminding themselves what they have seperated themselves from. Speaking for myself, and I am sure others, I have witnessed some dark and scary places that I honestly don't ever want to be again. So I have marked myself in such a way that reminds me to keep my head on straight, because if I don't I know it will be right there waiting for me. It also symbolizes the things I overcome on a daily basis just by maintaining sobriety and promoting a alcohol and drug free lifestyle to others.
The main reason I am doing this project is because it is my sober birthday in a few days, and this project would be a way to empower myself further and to help others understand how hard it can be to deviate from something so powerful. Tattooing is an art which symbolizes a lot to the person being marked, and often times the meaning is multi-faceted. By walking in similar shoes, I know that addicts and alcoholics have a lot that can be expressed, and this is a popular form of expression. If you have pictures that would be best, but a simple email or conversation would be much appreciated.
Thank you everyone for your time, and best of luck to everyone
Hi, I am a tat virgin, but welcome to MIP nonetheless. This is a great way to stay connected to other sober folks and share our experience as we travel the lovely road of sobriety.

I'm a tat virgin too, so I can't help you in that regard. I hope you can find some willing participants for your project though. Welcome to "MIP" anyhow...

Thank you for the welcoming. I am actually going to heading out of the area to do a bit of research for this topic, but I figured I would explore all of my options. I am just glad that websites such as this one exist. Proves an outlet for those who may need it, as well as extra support and inspiration.
