Anyone having thoughts about Weiner?

Anyone recognize the signs of addiction in this sad story?  I really do not like this guy but the signs are classic.  I am just really glad his last name was not "Vagina".

Amen...Even my "weiner dog" feels embarrassed. Weiner just requested a leave of absence to consider some treatment options. Sounds like a wise decision to me and one this alcoholic can relate too. I wish him and his family the best.

David...how funny and my input?  Thoughts are for his wife and family.  Self centered to the extreem political metaphor?  Came to believe that a Power Greater than MYSELF...

I feel bad for his family also. We have all seen a lot of people take themselves down over the years and I don't really enjoy seeing, famous or not.

I take from it that there are mental obsessions and insane behavoir that can happen without taking a drink.

Thus the lifelong process of maintaing our spiritual condition, staying out of self, helping others and doing the next right thing.

I don't have any thoughts on the individual, for the most part, other than hopefulness that they will seek and get the help that is needed to address the issue that brings them to our attention.  However, my heart goes out to so many families that are subjected to the mental and emotional trauma such situations bring about.

A wife and/or children (adult or otherwise) who is embarrassed, hurting and exposed to such a situation, that is being splashed all over the media for public debate, discussion, ect... makes the healing process so much harder to even begin.

The media did the same thing with Clinton.  My heart went out to Hillary, who I truly feel handled herself with the upmost of class throughout the ordeal, but again... she has been around for a while, so knows how to separate the personal issues from the political issues.  Wieners wife is with Hillary in Europe this whole week.  I hope she is getting some wisdom, comfort and knows she is not alone when it comes to having to come to some sort of terms with both her personal issues and how the media turns it into a sideshow.

Recently I have been watching the Casey Anthony case pretty close.  What her family has been through is not even imaginable.  The trauma in that family has been inflicted with is so real, so intense, that it shows all over them.  And what they are undergoing now, in the court room has to tear them up every day.  I truly hope that they are in the care of a professional now, helping them cope with the trauma, or at least be willing to pursue it when all is said and done.

Someone mentioned that this is a great example of "self will run riot"... selfish, self centeredness... and the source of obsession wasn't a substance, but the insanity or mental blank spot/ percular mental twist exist even in the absince of alcohol but not the "i.s.m." (I, self, me).  It is out in full force and hurting everyone who loves these people.

 I agree.

John

PS.  Who would keep such a family name?  His ancestors of past generations were probably named...  Linda (Lend a) and Ida ( I da) Wiener.  But then I was proably named after my grandfather who was named after a man that frequents prostitutes.

John

Almost took two days to figure out what TG was talking about.

And John, if I hook in and stay in touch wit that trial, I have to take at least one ibeprofin....I did hook in the beginning, but do take about 20 minutes, then I decided I had all the info in recall and just waiting for the Closing Arguments, and of the Course the Verdict......

Yes so very tragic for the families....I think that with my own catistrophic event in my life with my own family , that ultimately made me chose to move away for my home, the San Francisco Bay Area.  That event was in the headlines at least 2 or 3 days a week, on  the front page. Prehaps a different vantage point,  will watch, say a Prayer for all of them.....and click to off.

More that anything esle feel Weiner must feel so very humiliated, to know that he has put his family though all this.

Sex and Love addicts, 12Step Program, never a mention of that.....

Toodles, Toni

Ive've got one for you all, when my grandparents were at Ellis Island, like so many others, they had the opportunity to change their names or ajst them so many immigrants had endlessly long, hard to pronouce names, my grandparents on my mother's side were Yugoslavia, and had this rather long name of Stuponovich, they did not speak any English at all, one of the first thingg then needed to do after arriving....so with the name change, they saw the opportunity to simplify things with a shortening of their name of family origin, and they chose to just make it a smaller or shorte name....the removed the last part, and chose to make it Stupich, not Stuponovich, completely unaware of the word, "Stupid".

When I was in my very early twenties, this was such an embarrasment to me, with opening up a checking account, applying for a job, making an address change, whenever I was asked that question, I got that same look, and with their eyes coming up to look at me, and alway asked, in sort of disbalife that anyone could have a name that sounded almost exactly like "stupid".  Well, this was such an embarrisment to me, one day this young woman that was filling out an application, starting to ask me the same quetion, "Would you please spell that, I leaned over her desk, and she knew exactly why I asked her, "Do you think it would be possible to change my mother's maiden name.to SMITH...she smiled a big smile, and said, well I dont see any harm here, as that name is difficult,

what she didn't say was "maybe your face will stop turning bright red when asked".....

So at about 22, I no longer had this baggage of Stupich as a Mothers maiden name.

There was a kid in my high school named Fagg.  The gym teacher had a field day with it calling roll.  "Davis.... Edwards.... FAGG".  We also had a kid named Sunovich, and you know what he got called.
