I dont like spiders and snakes (and mice)

The other night I happened to look up in the light fixture in my kitchen...the light fixture is about 2ft by 2ft. To my amazement there was a baby snake.

We pulled down the fixture and found the snake to be about 8 inches long ...stiff and dead!!

We have been having a problem with mice and have glue mouse pads throughout the place. Inside kitchen cabinets, along the base boards, etc.

The morning after finding the snake, I went into the cupboard to get my coffee ( I always bang on doors, cabinets, even through a book in the middle of the kitchen floor) and there was a snake stuck to the friging glue pad.

I yelled out to Doug and he came running into the kitchen half asleep. He took a broom handle to smash to snake to the pad, the little sucker hissed at him.

We called a friend who's lived in Louisana all his life. He came over to confirm the snakes are Copper Heads. No friging way!!!

He and his wife had brought us a snake bit kit and a 22 rifle  with (snake bullets).  I dont have a clue about guns. My 5 brothers weren't allowed to play with gun because my uncle was killed with one. I was shown the basics off the rifle, so you can just call me "Annie Oakly".

Now all I want to know is "where is Mama Copper Head"? The seriousness of all this finally sank Monday nite. I lost it!!! Doug was afraid  I was goona turn green and my head was gonna start spinning.

We have sucessfully caught 6 mice. I am more afraid of those little suckers more than snakes.

My outside cat in now an inside cat.

Finally she has a name... Copper.

Probally change her name before too long. Copper automatically brings ...snake to mind.

We heard moth balls work.

No animal food left out in the open. The snakes are looking for water.

They say the weather here in La. is out of sync, so the critters are all confused.

Any suggestions on snake proofing my house would be appreciated.

My familys (city folks, Born and raised 20 miles south of Chicago Il.) is to move the hell out!!!!

Take Care

Nancy Jo

OH MY GOD! I would have been gone myself. I'm TERRIFIED of snakes. I'd think they were probably coming in for the mice. Get rid of the mice and that should help. Get another cat or 2. "plug" up any holes around the house, especially around the pipes under sinks...... May have to call an exterminator........... Girl, I'll be praying this is solved soon. A snake will make me hurt myself or whoever is in my path.

Good luck

hmmmm-well NancyJo?

I always wanted to visit LA. Since reading your post, Ive stroked that one from my mind. hahaha

The only advice I can give is "Lock self in bedroom--and order in"

I have a freind that used to get woke up in the morning, by big old crows, outside in his back yard.

Being hungover, and not in the greatest frame of mind--he used to get up--grap his rifle, and start shooting through the window screen.

His wife had him committed for a number of days--and from there, he went to detox.

Arent you glad youre sober?? lol

2nd coffee here-turning brain switch to "on".

hmmmm-Ok. The only answer I can come up with? "Get a bigger cat."!!

Something between a Leopard and a Lion, would do it.

Now-yu hafta remember. That, that suggestion--comes from a recovering alky. hahaha

You have a good day!!

Hey NancyJo, Yuck! You are reminding me that my parents once found a snake in their house and I am now living in said house. My parents also lived in Missouri and they found two nest of copperheads in houses there.

I'm sure you have already done a search on the net. I just did one, www.thriftyfun.com  -pestcontrol-snakes.....had great advice. One being, call Game and Fish, animal control or the fire department...Personally I would call all three. No snakes in the house for me.

Another suggestion on that site was to open a brown paper bag, leave it laying someplace, the snake would crawl in to hide....How do you get the bag out of the house?????!!!!And of course there was the reminder that mothballs are dangerous to your pets.

Oh, yes another one said if you have honeysuckle close to the house to get rid of it, copperheads love it.

Ok, guys , I gots to go. I have to put brown paperbags in all the rooms, get outside and rip up all the honeysuckle, and call Fish and game. Oh, I forgot I'm not the one with the snake problem, please do something NancyJo,you're right , there is probably a Momma some place.

Whatever you do,don't drink!

(((Hugs))) and prayers,

GammyRose

O'h My God, I just laughed so hard, worked up a sweat... and almost pissed my pants.

You guys are too funnnnnnny.

I forgot to mention my took a swim in a pond (sewage pond) way out in the back. La.'s sewage system  out in the country (somethings gotta change).

I gave him a bath outside, hung up the towel to dry all day.

Walked down the hallway where the towel was on the floor next to the washer and dryer. Started to do some laundry....getting little annoying pains in my feet and legs. Fire Ants!!!

It wasnt the first time I'd been bit. Solution: vinegar!!!

That 22 rifle is starting to sound better and better.

Doug's worried he's gonna come home and find bullet holes in the floors and walls.

Aside from all the critters I do love the property. Dougs dad bought it for us...we make small monthly payments. Can sell at anytime and make a nice profit.

His dad even makes the insurance payment...its a mobile home.

The reason I mention its a mobile home is because Hurricane Rita is headed our way.

We need some prayers here.

Its 102 today as it was yesterday.

God help us.

Take Care

Nancy Jo

I just have one question?

"Why have I been driving around, all day, and humming the song

"The Snakes Crawl at Night" by Charlie Pride

The last time I saw snakes, mice, and a lot of other stuff-Im not going into--was in the 70s --when I dropped a tab of that "Acid stuff"

I think Ile stick with the pink elephants. I keep a bag of peanuts by my bed, and if I feed them, they go away.

Been watching Rita, NancyJo. Man!! When it rains it pours.

Shi* that's not good!

Can't offer any advice as the only snakes over here are ok as long as you don't step on them.

Just had to ask though, what are snake bullets? I've been target shooting for the last 17 years and have a keen interest in Rifles as well as 3 years military service and I've never heard of them!

Hope you get rid of the snakes soon.

Best wishes.

Chris.
