I am back (and sober)!

I checked out of the detox center this morning and am celebrating my 4th day of sobriety!  The first day was hell, but once I got the alcohol out of my system I started feeling better.  They did not allow us to smoke at all and we were only allowed outside for 30 minutes a day which really sucked.  Since I started feeling better, I have been eating like crazy.  I feel better than I have in years!  I am looking forward to telling my sponser about this tonight at my meeting.

I know the mental cravings that I will experience are going to be hard, but I can do it with the support of others.

Hi Andrew, I'm shocked that they wouldn't let you smoke! You're obviously a strong charcter to cope with detox as well as not smoking. Congratulations! You're now sober. you've done the hard bit. Best of luck for the future.

Keep coming back, go to F2F meetings if you can and love your new life!

Go for it!

Chris.

Andrew? Welcome to sobriety. What you do with that sobriety, one day at a time is up to you.

The possibilities are endless. The tools are all here. Truck on buddy. Truck on.

Thanks everyone!  Yes it was really hard having to come down off cigarettes and alcohol at the same time.  I was not particulary impressed with this detox center because I felt more like prisoner than someone who voluntarily checked in to receive help for my addiction.  Of course I will remember that treatment when I think about picking up a drink again and tell myself that I don't want to have to relive that experience ever again.

SO far I have not had any major cravings for alcohol.  I have been working like a madman since I got home today.  I have already made a hardware store run and installed a new floor in my shed since I got home this afternoon.  Tomorrow I am going to be installing some new light fixtures in the bathrooms and maybe fix the sprinkler system.  I am going to run out of projects to keep me busy pretty quickly if I keep working at this pace.  I guess I could mow the lawn 2 or 3 times each day.

Thanks again for the support.

Andrew

Bet they gave you decaf coffee too, what a waste of a coffee pot!!

The theory is that you stop all the addictive substances at once, then you don't have to worry about it again, but IMHO...take care of the thing that's killing you first. This is of course coming from a smoker, so maybe I'm jusst a little biased.

Love cheri
